Though I'd been aware of it before, the website for National Registry of Exonerations filled me with such sorrow for the many, many people who were imprisoned--sometimes for decades--before being proven innocent and released.  How terribly sad!

But I can’t ride... I can’t even walk without crutches.”

She ran to the men, Juanita two steps behind her. Juanita called for their teenage helper to summon her father, the doctor, from the next village. Somehow she and Juanita wrestled the two men onto cots. It was a harder job with Jett who was six foot five inches of ornery muscle and bone. He might not be in the Navy anymore, but he kept his fighting trim. Sarah examined him, pleased to see his eyelids flicker open, revealing the chocolate brown eyes that haunted her dreams, now hazed with pain.

"George Washington," he said, pushing her hands away. "I'm okay. Stop poking me."

Mind? Of course he minded. He had the right name but that was absolutely the end of that comparison. He had zero in common with the jolly old elf.
Christmas spirit wasn’t exactly his forte.
