Can't Wait...Giveaway

Sandra Orchard here

Confession time. When you were a child, did you peak in the closets in search of hidden Christmas gifts?

I did.

And apparently, I'm still as impatient as ever!

Saturday, I went Christmas shopping and found a wonderful nativity set for my granddaughter. But...

I couldn't wait twenty-four whole days to give it to her!!!

I couldn't even wait 24 hours. LOL

So... I reasoned that I could give it as a family gift for decorating for Christmas. ~grin~

The idea was a big hit with my granddaughter.

Your Turn: Share a Christmas memory of how you, one of your children or grandchildren couldn't wait until Christmas.

Giveaway:
In the spirit of giving, today I'm giving away the winner's choice of one of my Love Inspired Suspense novels to a randomly chosen commenter. I'll announce the winner in the comments section Wednesday morning. If you don't wish to leave an email addy in your comment, please check back on Wednesday to see if you've won.

  1. I was a peeker. i knew where mum hid things and would look and work out what was mine or my brothers, one year I saw a tennis ball thing and knew it was my brothers. Wrong it was a practice ball not a several new ones it was on a cord you attach to the ground to practice and it was for me. Its the main one I got wrong I remember. I also know one year i knew I was getting a new bike and I searched the house up and down. never found it. turns out it was at a friend of the families place and arrived Christmas eve after I went to bed. In later years I am much better I will look at a gift but I dont open them I like the surprise and I dont get many now days. This year I am not sure I will get any as a couple of the ones who gave a gift passed away. I do have a gift I got for myself from mum under the tree.

  3. I wasn't a peeker, I was a begger. "OH, let me open just one now." "Oh, I have a tooth ache, it will feel better if I can just open one now."

  4. I love it, Tracy! And if I was your mom I would have let you...we would have run out of gifts before Christmas :)

  5. I'm actually good with waiting to open gifts, so I don't remember ever peeking. I do recall desperately wanting a Todd doll (I guess he was Ken's cousin lol) and was really disappointed when I didn't get it.

  6. Even if I knew where Mom and Dad hid the presents (probably in their bedroom, which was off-limits), I had no interest in peeking. The best part of Christmas morning was the surprise!

  7. Karen and Christine, I admire your self-control :)

  8. Even if I had wanted to peek I never had the chance. Presents were not put under the tree until the night before Christmas but were kept in a locked trunk in my parents bedroom ~ a place we were not allowed and put under the tree after we were in bed on Christmas eve.

  9. Wow, Ellen, a locked truck! Your parents were serious!!! My parents, too, put them under the tree long after we fell asleep. I remember waking up one night in the wee hours and finding them hard at work. Of course, after a quick washroom visit, I was shuffled straight back to bed. ~grin~

  10. My parents hid them well so I NEVER got to peek! However, my husband said he did....he was one of 8 so guess they could not hide that many very well!
    Merry Christmas to all!

  12. you know what was funny the roles reversed in our house as I got older it was mum who wanted to peek. This may be my last christmas, oh I need to just check it doesn't need to be put in the cupboard so it doesn't melt etc. and that was before she went into the home! She would use the aged card that she should be able to open when ever.
then in the nursing home she would open as they came sometimes wait til I visited but it would be before Christmas. always I may not be here on Christmas.
I on the other hand want the surprise but will give a feel or shake depending what the present looks like.

  13. I dont think mum ever knew I found gifts although she should have known I was a snooper. with things under the tree it was my brother who was almost 5 years older who was the instigator pulling them out for me to feel but he would actually undo it a little to try and see. I think I was his cover!

  14. Sandra, I've done my share of peaking. My mom must have known because once she wrapped up our old Monopoly set and put my name on it!!

  15. That's so funny, Jenny, about your mum. And I can totally see an older brother using you as cover. LOL

Linda, that's hilarious. What a fun mom you had!

  16. I wasn't a peeker, but my daughter was. She always went to bed Christmas Eve with a flashlight. And she'd wander into our bedroom at 4am. I told her to go back to bed.

  17. I have two. First, one year when I was a teen, I went up to the attic and unwrapped and rewrapped all the presents my parents had hidden there for the four of use. No one every knew.

Second, the year I no longer believed in Santa Claus, I wanted a little red spinning wheel so badly, but didn't know if my parents could get it for me. I kept getting up every half hour and peaking into the living room, until my Dad finally called me in and showed me the spinning wheel.

Where gifts are concerned, I really don't like surprises.

  18. No way!!! You unwrapped and rewrapped?! Jean you are sooo bad! LOL I always managed to find the gifts before they were wrapped. ~grin~

  19. My parents did not allow us to touch let alone peek at our gifts! :) My brother can't wait to give us gifts either - if he has it and sees us before our birthdays or Christmas he gives us our gifts early! :) My mother always wants him to wait!

  20. I love that your brother can't wait. My hubby is just the opposite, except...when it comes to chocolate. LOL He's already been asking me if there is any of that in the house!

  21. Fun post, Sandra! I wasn't actually a peeker, but as a young child I would pick up a gift and shake it (to see if I could figure out what it was!), then quickly place it back underneath the tree. ~ Love the photos of your precious granddaughter---what a little DOLL! And what a great idea to give her that Nativity set---never too early for the little ones to learn about Jesus *smile*. ~ Hugs, Patti Jo

  25. One year I just could NOT wait for Christmas because I knew I was going to get a cabbage patch big wheel. I could just sense it...then it really happened...and life was awesome. Oh the ease of being six years old! Ha!
