Hi everyone!
Rhonda Gibson here.
I was thinking... yes a dangerous task I know anyway ... I was thinking, what do my sister Craftie ladies do for fun when they aren't writing? Then I got a little more specific, what kinds of crafts do they do?
You see, Winter time is when I craft the most. My favorite craft to do is beading. I make beaded jewelry. I'm not real fancy but I do have fun with it and it relaxes me. Just this last week, I made a pair of earrings and a bracelet for a friend for a birthday present. She loves lighthouses and the color blue. I was going to post a picture but it doesn't look like it will let me here... so if you want to see it go to Rhonda's Ramblings and have a look.
Now on to what some of my Craftie Ladie friends are crafting!
Debra Ullrick reported that she enjoys drawing. She does Western Art with charcoal.
Christina Rich says my youngest dd and I love making scarves. See their creations here.
Jo Ann Ferguson enjoys knitting, lately she's been making personalized Christmas stockings for each new member of the family (baby or bride/groom).
Cheryl St. John makes jewelry and Valentine's once a year.
Allie Pleiter says "Most of you know how passionate I am about knitting. I've written a knitting and travel blog for three years: destiKNITions.blogspot.com. I'm NEVER without yarn and needles!"
Deborah Hale here: "I used to do cross-stitch. The last projects I did were individual stockings for my four children. I would love to get back to it and scrap booking if I had more time. About the only crafts I do these days are sometimes at Christmas when I make an ornament or two for my tree. This year I made half-a-dozen new decoupage egg ornaments which turned out really nice. Here's a link to a picture from Cheryl's Christmas tree tour"
So now it's your turn! Tell us what crafts you enjoy doing!!
Hey Rhonda, great question! I love to READ for pleasure when I'm not writing! As for crafts I enjoy scrapbooking. I used to do it all the time, but then the writing took over and now my pictures are piled up! I really need to schedule time to at least slide the picture in an album!
ReplyDeleteRhonda, I love that bracelet and earrings. I'm a lighthouse nut. I made a quilt with lighthouses. After I had made it I discovered I have a few ancestors that were lighthouse keepers.
ReplyDeleteAllie posted a video about a shawl a few weeks back. It was absolutely stunning!
Good morning, Lynette I love to READ also, my first love and pass time :) I also enjoyed scrapbooking but like you, the writing took over. Most of my pictures are in boxes, frames and a few made it into photo albums... LOL beading
ReplyDeleteThanks Christina :) It's funny you should mention quilts because I have made quilts too. My favorite part of quilting is the actual piecing my least favorite is the binding. How cool to find out that you have lighthouse keepers in your lineage! Love that.
I went to Allie's webpage and loved it.
Opps I didn't finish my thought on beading... I was just going to say beading doesn't take as long as scrapbooking and quilting.
ReplyDeleteI scrapbook and crochet. I'm currently working on two scrapbooks for my best friend. They were supposed to be Christmas gifts but I got busy working on my mom's gift and couldn't figure out how to clone myself into 4 people to get everything done.
ReplyDeleteI'm also currently working on several different blankets. It's hard to work on them at home when my solid black kitty likes to crawl up in my lap.
Hi Rhonda,
ReplyDeleteWhen I'm not writing, I enjoy cooking, music (voice and instrumental) , and hiking, to name a few. Believe it or not, organizing is also a hobby.

Wow, it's really interesting to see what kind of different crafts people do. Such a nice diversity.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun blog, Rhonda.

Lynette Eason, I sure wished you lived nearby. I would bug you to teach me how to scrapbook. I wanted to do one of my writing and publishing journey, but don't have a clue how to begin...other than I bought a scrapbook that is still in the bag from the place I bought it at. Sigh. *smiling*
I love needlepoint!! When I was still teaching school, I rarely had time to stitch (except a little in the summer). But now that I'm at home I enjoy working on my latest needlepoint project (in between my writing and cleaning litter boxes, LOL). And this is not a craft, but I also love playing my piano--especially since I finally had it professionally tuned. ~ Thanks for this post today, and I'm planning to hop to your blog and view the jewelry! Hugs, Patti Jo
ReplyDeleteI garden. I love to go out and dig in my garden, plant bulbs and plant things for the spring. I used to knit, crochet, sew, but the writing has sucked up all the creativity.
ReplyDeleteHi Rhonda, I used to like to putter in flowers but older now and bending a problem so I like games on the puter, esp scrabble. I am avid reader so don't think of that as hobby but lots of enjoyment with adventures to so many places.

I like scrapbooking but haven't done to much lately same with cross stitch
ReplyDeleteGreat post. Spare time? Ha! I work out. Does that count as a craft? I don't really craft otherwise. I use to scrapbook, kind of, when my kids were little with their pictures but now that all my pictures are on the computer or thumb drives, I don't do that. This past Christmas I started looking up my genealogy. Again, not really a craft, but its been interesting.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Terri. Spare time? I don't get no stinking spare time LOL. Recently, for our camp auction, I picked up my crochet needles and made a doll. It took me back more than a decade when I had time to sew!
ReplyDeleteWriting does take a lot of time... before I wrote I painted, quilted, scrapbooked, (loved making recipe scrap books) and beaded. I also read several books a week :) Would I trade writing for all those crafts? Nope, I really love writing. I still read some and bead when I have special things to make, usually birthday and Christmas :)
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone for responding! I love hearing what you craft and to those who don't have time to craft because you now write... THANK YOU! I love reading your books :)
Rhonda,
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun blog. I've enjoyed seeing all the Craftie ladies. I'm in the group that used to do crafts. Now I can't find the time for those "other" projects.
