Heroes

The Important men in our lives are our fathers, brothers, husbands, sons and many others. But there are some I haven’t mentioned. The heroes of our books.

Yup, heroes are important men in our lives. They embody things we admire. They overcome challenges. They will even turn their lives around for the women they love.

So let’s talk about heroes in romance novels. How about favorite heroes?

I have mine. Will Parker in LaVyrle Spencer’s wonderful book, Morning Glory. He was a man with such a gentle heart who longed for nothing more than the simple things. A farm, a mule, a meal, a woman to love. He broke my heart and glued it back together a dozen times in the story. He was my perfect hero. Of course, Indiana Jones isn’t bad either.

I’ve never been able to write a story with a man like Will. I tried in Speed Trap, my next book from Love Inspired Suspense that coming out in August. Garrett Bowen is my Will Parker, but I’m afraid he didn’t quite hit the mark.

So who is your favorite fictional hero? And why? Share.

  1. My favorite is Jamie from Diana Gabaldon's Outlander. Of course, it's the Jamie from book one. My favorite line is at the beginning when she challenges him with... "What are you going to do?"
And he responds, "I'll just pick you up and sit you on the horse."
Sigh, and you know he could/would do it.

  2. Pamela,
Ah, the alpha male hero. I know just what you mean. Don't we love to see them tamed by a woman.

  4. Thank you, Reese.
Jackson Rule was a great example of a wounded hero.

  5. This is really telling my age but that does not matter, one of my fiction heros was Chyenne played by Clint Walker, also Danial Boone played by Fess Parker, there are just too many oldies to mention.

  7. Hi Pat,
Thanks for telling me about your blogging site! Well done, Craftie Ladies! As for your topic, I, too, love LaVryle Spencer's Will Parker. (My copy of Morning Glory is getting rather tattered from all the times I've re-read it!) My other favorite storybook hero is Caleb Chaney in Cheryl St. John's "The Doctor's Wife". Caleb is a great, forgiving, tender, compassionate fellow - true hero material!

  8. My favorite fictional hero is Special Agent Daniel Clark in "Adam" by Ted Dekker. He rescued women from being murdered by catching "Eve." He faced "Eve" headon and survived to finally figure out where and how to capture "Eve." A subject dear to my heart. Written in a fashion I've not ever seen before. What an impact!

  9. Edna,
Oh, I loved Clint Walker in Cheyenne. Of course, I was very young when I watched it. He made a great hero.

    Jessica,
So glad you could drop by. I haven't read The Doctor's Wife, but I'll keep an eye out for a copy.

    Carmen,
I have not read Ted Dekker. I'll certainly check him out. Thanks.

  10. I'm terrible at remembering heroes' names or even the books they are in unless I've read them recently. I just finished reading Linda Goodnight's The Baby Bond. I loved her hero Nic. In fact, I loved all of her Bond series heroes.

  11. For books, I can't remember his name, but in Missy Tippens book His Forever Love, I loved the mom's boyfriend/new husband. He just had a great attitude of she's staying with me! : )
I also liked the hero in Mae Nunn's book Lone Star Courtship. He just had the ability to make you swoon! He sounded like...amazing! Hahaha!
For TV, I really like T.R. Knight from Grey's Anatomy. He is really cute! Plus, he's a good actor and I really like his character. Unfortunately, he is not in any more seasons of GA. : ( Speaking of Grey's Anatomy, Patrick Dempsey!

There are just too many to count!
