Ask Elnora--about friends???? Lenora Worth

Hello, friends! It's early. Elnora is not a morning person but I managed to get out from underneath my warm covers so I could get this posted to my blog friends. Yesterday, I spent the day with two of my very best friends, fellow writers Eve Gaddy and Julia (Janet) Justiss. We met up at a Starbuck's and plotted books for hours. Then we decided to go to lunch and we talked and plotted and gave each other emotional therapy for another hour or so. Then we did some retail therapy! We headed to the mall! Of course, we stopped in the shoe department and we all bought kicking ankle boots. Charlie's Angels have nothing on us! Since we are all busy people, this precious time was important. We had to squeeze every drop of time and talk into those few hours. We all live far apart, but not so far apart that we can't meet in the middle somewhere. Elnora is always up for a road trip. And it was a beautiful fall day, with a bit of a chilly wind. So of course, before we left each other we each had to get a cup of java for the road! Now, after a long week of ups and downs with our visit yesterday being on the UP side, it's back to work. But being with two people who've nursed me through the worst of times and celebrated with me during the best of times made me think of the importance of friends. And the importance of meeting in the middle. What would we do without friends? I hear another song in my head "Oh, you gotta have friends!" Being a writer has allowed Elnora to make friends all over the world! That's one of the perks of this job. We might meet online but when we finally meet in person, the squeals and hugs are like Christmas! Better than a shoe clearance! As good as chocolate! And more precious than gold! So, my precious friends, let's talk about friendships! Let's discuss how some people can just "get" you with your flaws and scary moments and hissy fits and everything, how a true friend does meet you in the middle and is willing to compromise to accomodate you while you do the same for them--out of love! What is it about true friends that you love???

  1. Amen, Elnora. Just as I was reading your post, my dear friend, Sharon, called me. I'd had some challenges with the book I'm working on, and she was a sympathetic ear--and had great input. She's coming to to town in Jan to speak to our writers' group. I can't wait.

  2. In the last three weeks I have found how true your post is, Elnora. The encouragement and strength of friends, even long distance friends, can lift us on the darkest of days.

  3. I feel the same. Some of my writers friends are family. When something goes right, I reach for the phone... when something goes wrong, I reach for the phone...

  4. Love this post Lenora. One of my favorite quotes on friendship comes from Ralph Waldo Emerson

"The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, nor the kindly smile, nor the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when he discovers that someone else believes in him and is willing to trust him with his friendship."

  6. I agree with all. Linda, we are behind you in prayer. We are Warriors on that regard. I'm so glad I know all of you. It's always fun to put a face with the pictures we see online and all of you have such lovely faces. Think of all the times we've been together, laughing, comparing, sharing. Friends are like a lovely lace shawl that wraps us in beauty and softness and woven into that lace is all of our stories, our hopes and our dreams. Strengthened with prayer!

  11. Great post, Elnora---and your day spent with friends sounds so FUN!! ~ I also had a fun time yesterday having lunch with dear friend (and Love Inspired Suspense author!) Debby Giusti---oh my, she is such a sweetheart, and we could've easily talked ALL day! (She's also an amazing Prayer Warrior, and I'm convinced one reason I did so well during my 4 spinal surgeries last year is due to her prayers). ~ Friends are such a wonderful blessing, and I am very blessed. Thanks again for sharing, and have a great weekend. Hugs from Georgia, Patti Jo :)

  13. Friends are so important! Especially to those of us who spend so much time at isolated tasks like writing.

  14. Good friends have always meant so much to me in my life. I have friends that have been with me for more than 40+ years and they mean the world to me but then I also have new friends that are wonderful too! We have lived in 5 states and as I have kept the old friends and added new friends, my life has become even richer! My best friend I met when we were 3 years old and here we are both 52 years old now and still keep in touch. A lifetime of memories!

  15. Great discussion, ladies. I love having "pen pals" on this blog! I sure enjoy meeting people in person, too. The world is a small place when it comes to frienship!
