Dream Vacations

Happy Spring, ladies! Karen Kirst here to talk about favorite vacation destinations. The sunnier, warmer days make me want to plan a trip. How about you? But where? The beach? Mountains? Maybe a quaint little town with a cozy bed and breakfast?
My favorite place to visit is the Czech Republic. That’s partially because my husband grew up there and his family still lives there. (We like to tease him that he’s now a redneck Czech.) But family aside, it’s a beautiful country with centuries-old castles, jaw-dropping cathedrals, stone-paved roads and the best hot chocolate I’ve ever tasted-so thick and rich it’s almost like pudding. I love the unique pottery, the Bohemian crystal and china. The bakeries and aisles of all types of salami and fresh-baked bread. Their stucco houses are often painted pastel colors, pale yellows and greens and pinks that brighten the long, snowy winters. I haven’t been for three years and am longing to go back!
What about you? What places do you like to visit? Or dream of visiting one day?

  1. I love to travel, so there aren't too many places I wouldn't visit if given a chance. I do love mountains, though. The Rockies, Alps, anywhere.
Oh, now you have me pining to travel again!

But I'm with Barbara. I'd love to go just about anywhere. :)

    1. The beach would be so nice, Missy! We just moved from the beach back to the mountains and I'm sure we'll miss it this summer.

  3. You made me think. I don't really have a favorite place. I'm happy in the pines and I'm happy at the beach. I think my favorite place to go is anywhere where I can get out of the hectic city and lifestyle.

  4. Karen, how cool to have family to visit in the Czech Republic. For the first time this year, we are splitting time between two places--the desert and the beach. How can two so different places appeal to me? I don't know. Like Barbara, I love to travel, so I enjoy visiting many places. Two places I would love to visit are Australia and New Zealand.

    1. I've never been to the desert. It's great you get to experience two different places. Australia would be cool. I'd like to go to England and visit tea rooms. :)

  5. I LOVE the mountains AND the beach!! Even though it would be nice to visit Ireland or Australia, there are so many places here in the US I still want to visit (New England states and Pacific Northwest mainly). ~ Karen, you said you can see the Smoky Mountains from your window! How wonderful *sigh*. My family loves visiting the Smokies. :) Blessings, Patti Jo

  7. Karen,
I loved visiting Prague! Such a cosmopolitan city.

Germany is my favorite spot in Europe. I like France and Italy as well.

In the US, Charleston and Savannah are favorites. Hubby is from San Fran so we get there often as well.

But I'm joining the others who mentioned the ocean. Give me a beachfront condo and sunny skies and I'm happy! :)

    1. Debby,
We've driven through Germany but haven't spent time there except for on military bases. A beautiful country. :)
Have you been to Paula Deen's restaurant in Savannah? I've heard it's wonderful.

  8. I have been to Paula Deen's restaurant. She always has a long line. The trick is to put your name in early, then tour the city and return just in time to claim your table. :)

Karen, you mentioned military bases in Germany. Are you military? My hubby was stationed there for three years. Then my son was there for three years. That's when we visited Prague...or Pra-ha, as the locals say.

    1. Hey Debby,
Yes, my hubby just medically retired last fall. We used the free military flights and flew into Ramstein and Spangdahlem. Then we rented a car and drove through to Czech. :)

  10. I'd love to go to the Czech Republic. My grandparents came from there. Scotland is also on my list of places to see. For the most part, I like to vacation at historical sites, or catch historical sites at the places we're vacationing.
