I need your ideas
Hello everyone, Winnie Griggs here. In just a few days the 2016 Romantic Times Booklovers Convention will kick off and many of my friends, of both the writer and reader variety, will be there. But alas, I won't make it this year. For productivity's (and sanity's) sake I had to cut back on the number of conferences and conventions I go to this year.
But I have to admit, as the time draws near I'm pouting a bit, thinking about all the fun I'll miss out on. So I'm looking for ideas on how to sprinkle a little fun into my week so I won't feel so left out. Keep in mind I need to stay home and can't shirk my writing time.
Leave a comment with your suggestions/ideas and you'll be entered into a drawing to win any book of your choosing from my backlist. I know you folks are very creative, so let's have it, any and all ideas welcome!

Winnie, I'm pouting al little too because I'm not able to attend RWA or ACFW this year. So I'm in your same shoes! :) I'm consoling myself by thinking of the money I'll save. :)
ReplyDeleteLike you, Winnie, I'm unable to attend any conferences this year. I console myself with the fact that I'm saving money. I look forward to vicariously enjoying the experiences through the photos sure to be posted on Facebook.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I do that helps me have fun when I'm writing is play music. Since I write historicals and need instrumentals because hearing words while writing words distracts me, I listen to classical music. It enhances my creativity, and it helps me travel back in time, which is a good thing since I write for LIH.
Turn up the music that makes you want to move Ann's Jan out in your living room...push back the sofa and table and go all out. If you have people in your house do a dance off...laugh. Get up and go for a walk at sun up our sun down and make sure to take some creative pictures of the surroundings you see everyday...share on Facebook. :)
ReplyDeleteUgh..I'm on my phone and it won't let me edit.,music that makes you want to move and jam our...

ReplyDeleteWinnie, do you enjoy crafts? Playing the piano? Those are two of my favorite "at-home" activities (besides writing and reading, of course!) that I love to do. Sometimes when I've been writing a while and muddled brain needs a break, I'll play a few hymns on my piano or work on my current needlepoint project.
ReplyDeleteOR you could bake yourself a special treat, take a walk in your neighborhood (you might already do this, LOL), or try an art project just for fun. I laugh at the "adult coloring craze" right now because I never stopped enjoying coloring! Ever since I was a child I've LOVED to color, and before this fad started my daughters were buying me coloring books (yes, made for children) to enjoy. :) Especially as I went through my looong recuperation from spinal surgeries, coloring was a wonderful activity for me.
I hope you'll find something special to do so you won't feel so bad about missing the conferences and conventions.
Hugs, Patti Jo
p.s. Do you have any pets? If not, might I suggest adopting a couple of cats - - they'll keep you entertained, LOL. ;)
I not going to any conferences this year, but friends have a beach house and I'm dragging the husband there.
ReplyDeleteI'm a children's writer, so not really eligible for that conference, although a fellow MG author who also writes YA is there. Seems like a great opportunity to network and sell books!
ReplyDeleteTake yourself out of the house for a break during one day--say for ice cream.

Winnie, so sorry you won't be able to make the conference this year! It sounds like it would be a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteHow about a favorite movie you can play at home on your DVD? Maybe something light-hearted & fun. Mary Poppins is always one that lifts my spirit & makes me laugh and sing along :-) Silly I know, but it's a nice break from the doldrums! Or take yourself out for a coffee break or a short walk or maybe drive.
Those are the only suggestions I can help you with. And if you do decide on a movie, invite me, I'll come laugh along with you!
