Happy National Read A Book Day!

Hello everyone, Winnie Griggs here.

Today is National Read A Book Day - an observance tailor-made for us bookaholics!  I know none of us who hang out around here need an excuse to sit down with a good book, but it's always nice to have a little extra incentive, isn't it? :)

In honor of the occasion, I thought I'd share some of my favorite reading and book related memes with you.

So what about you? Do you have a favorite book/reading quote that you'd like to share with us?  And what are you reading right now?

  1. Great memes, Winnie. Reading expands my world and takes me places where I would not ordinarily go. Just finished a Julie Lessman story. She's a delightful writer.

  2. I simply can't imagine a world without books and reading. My love of reading opened the gate for me to become a writer! Right now, I'm reading Mindy Obenhaus's Their Ranch Reunion.

    1. Hi Lisa. Like you, my path as a writer also stemmed from my love of reading, a joy that is still a part of my life

  3. Love the memes, Winnie! And each one is oh, so true. Books are truly like dear friends, to which my overstuffed bookshelves will attest.

    1. LOL - I hear you on the overstuffed bookshelves - mine line the walls in several rooms in my home

  4. One of my son's girlfriends once complained to me that he read too much. She said he'd read while standing in line at McDonald's. I laughed and told her that she was talking to the wrong woman. I take a book with me to the movies--just in case the film doesn't hold my interest. I VERY rarely have that problem with a book. Needless to say, that girlfriend didn't last too long. Our family strives to support the publishing industry all on our own. Right now I'm reading a chronological version of the Bible and James Scott Bell's book on plotting, WRITE YOUR NOVEL FROM THE MIDDLE.

    1. Oh my, is there really such a thing as reading too much?? And I actually own JSB's Write Your Novel From The Middle, but I haven't had a chance to read it yet. You'll have to let me know how you like it.

  5. Where would we be without books? Reading books has helped me through the good times and the bad and taught me so many things about life. You truly can educate yourself through books. Every day should be National Read A Book Day!!!!

  7. Love all the quotes, Winnie! To my husband's dismay, I'm a book hoarder. He insists I clean out my bookshelves fairly regularly, but I have way too many favorites. Even if I never get around to reading them again, I enjoy just seeing them on the shelves.

I'm about to finish a David Baldacci novel. I like to read in a variety of genres. Need to check my TBR stack soon to see what's up next!

I'm reading a suspense called Every Move She Makes by Robin Burcell. I heard her speak at a recent conference I attended. So far, she'd not disappointing.

  11. I had to Google reader quotes...lol! But the one I love is this: A writer only begins a book. A reader finishes it. :-)

I just finished reading Deadly Proof by Rachel Dylan and am starting The Single Mom's Second Chance by Jessica Keller. I can't wait to return to Goose Harbor MI since I've read every single one of them!

I love the one about housework up there Winnie, 'cause it's so true!! :-D Thanks for sharing the fun meme's.

  14. It's not the best reading practices, but I usually end up reading more than one book at a time. Writing-wise I'm reading Emotional Craft of Fiction and loving it. I'm also reading LIS books and a current selection from book club.
