Sunday Scripture

The Baptism of the Lord

Baptism of Christ, fresco by Giotto di Bondone,
c. 1305 (Cappella Scrovegni, Padua, Italy). [PS-US]

The people were filled with expectation,
and all were asking in their hearts
whether John might be the Christ.
John answered them all, saying,
"I am baptizing you with water,
but one mightier than I is coming.
I am not worthy to loosen the thongs of his sandals.
He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire."

After all the people had been baptized
and Jesus also had been baptized and was praying,
heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended upon him
in bodily form like a dove.
And a voice came from heaven,
"You are my beloved Son;
with you I am well pleased."
Luke 3:15-16, 21-22

If you have any prayer needs, please mention them in the comments section so we can join you in prayer. You do not need to include specific names or situations of a private nature, just say that you have a prayer request. The Lord knows your heart and the needs you have. It is a privilege and honor to pray with you and for you.

  1. Can you please pray for people who are suffering from mental illness, their families, and the many children who are orphans because of drug addiction. I work with these populations, and it is just heart-breaking. Thank you.

  2. Jennifer, I'm covering your request with prayer. Each Monday, I gather with other prayerful people, and we pray for Children@Risk. They are always on my heart. So many are abused or trapped by addiction. Some are trafficked. So sad. I'll add the orphans of drug addiction to those we pray for tomorrow. Bless you for the work you do!

  3. Please pray for my niece who is having issues with pain and anxiety. Doctors are trying to find the right meds and treatment.
