Clearing out.... and a drawing with five winners! Roxanne Rustand

Wow. Springtime always seems like the perfect time to really deep clean...and this year, I'm trying to go much farther.  Yesterday my long-suffering husband helped me lug five --FIVE--overloaded laundry baskets of novels (because yep--writers are avid readers too!), research books and books on writing to a local used bookstore.  Those baskets were heavy!

And then there were the laundry baskets of miscellaneous items for Goodwill last week...and two weeks before that, a load of paper that filled the back of my CRV, destined for the community-wide shredding event at one of the local banks. We had tax records stowed away that went back to the early nineties!  Good grief. But even with this small start after years of living in one house, I suddenly feel a little lighter.  Happier.

I keep thinking that--though we have no plans to move from our acreage in the country--you never know what life will bring.  Just in the last year, we've lost three good friends.  Unexpected losses.

And I keep thinking that it's only fair to work harder at getting my life in order, lest our kids have to deal with all of our stuff.  I really need to buy and read that Marie Kondo book, to see if it will help!

Just in case you'd like something more for your shelves, my newest book is out now!  :)  And...in case you'd like something more, I'll happily mail one of my paperback novels to each of FIVE winners in a drawing (USA residents only.)  The winners can look on Amazon to find a title they would like. If I don't have the one you choose, we can try to find another one you'd like.

Do you have trouble dealing an accumulation of "stuff" as well? Any ideas for me on how to handle it all?   :)

All the best,
Roxanne

  1. Roxanne, I so understand about clearing out space. We recently cleaned out a storage shed and I lost track of the loads of paperback books I'd accumulated through the years.

    1. There were six comments and I'd offered five books, so I might as well make everyone a winner! If you'd like a book, please message me via FB ---my roxanne.rustand profile, not my roxanne.rustand.author page ---and tell me the title you'd like and your address --USA addresses only. :) You can see my titles on Amazon. The novellas are only ebooks. not print.

  2. I've always been the traveler so I haven't put a lot of money into the house or things for it. But even I go through my closets & files and reorganize a couple of times a year. Like you, I always do feel a little lighter too.

  3. I save books. Hate to part with them. They're like old friends. Is that the plight of the writer? You've inspired me to lighten my load!

    But not today. :)

  4. I struggle with cleaning out, and I’ve passed that on to our kids! I have plans to clean out our storage room this summer but I haven’t a clue how to do it!!

  5. I hear you, Roxanne! Problem is, when I try the Marie Kondo approach, too many things spark just enough joy that I can't let them go. And we also have boxes of old financial records we really need to shred somewhere. Project Guy is on the lookout for one of those community shredding events.
