Showing Love

Since our theme this month is love in all its many aspects, I want to share a book with you that changed my life several years ago.

The Five Love Languages by Dr. Gary Chapman

Knowing my love language and my husband's love language has helped my marriage tremendously. Also, knowing the love languages of my children has helped me be a better parent.

On the link I've provided, you can take a 30 sec quick assessment test and learn more information about your love language and the love language of those you love.

  2. Hi Terri:

I have not read “The Five Love Languages “ but I will have to look into it.

I think the very best philosophical analysis of ‘love’ , which just happens to also be from a Christian perspective, is “The Four Loves” by C. S. Lewis. I believe this work provides many insights into love which would be very useful to a romance author.

I think one of the great romances of the 20th Century was between Lewis and his American wife. This is depicted in the move Shadowlands which I have both productions. There is an American version and a English version. If you have not seen this movie, you are in for a great treat. Actually, two great treats.

  3. Lynn, I too have recommended this book to many friends both believers and non-believers. It is truly a God send.
Vince, I will have to check out Lewis' The Four Loves and Shadowlands. I think Lewis was an amazing writer and man of God. Thank you for sharing that info.
    Blessings,

  4. Hi Terri,
Yes, this is a great book. My dh and I studied it together and found out that we didn't know our primary love language until the end.

And Vince, Shadowlands is one of my favorite movies. I've watched it over and over. What a love story!

  5. Hi Lyn:

Have you seen both versions of “Shadowlands”?

The English were so possessive of C. S. Lewis that two completely different movies were made based on virtually the same script. I really don’t know which movie I like best.

I don’t know if this ‘two movie’ type of thing has ever been done before. It’s an education in cinematography to watch how these two different directors filmed the same movie. It’s creatively fascinating.

I’m so glad you like the movie.

  10. HI Vince,
No I didn't know about both films. I belong to Netflix so I'll have to look that one up.

And Dr. Chapman and Kristen thanks for stopping by!

  11. This is a lovely book. I never did figure out my own love language but I figured out my hubby's and lots of other folks'. Funny how it's so hard to 'see' yourself.
