Sharing a Milestone!

My Badge of Honor!
Hey everyone! Patty Smith Hall here and I'm over the moon to share a major milestone in my world with you today. I am happy to announce that I have officially worn out my favorite pair of walking shoes!

Now, for some of you exercise fanatics, that may not seem like such a big deal but just a year ago, I could  barely stand, much less walk. Most of my days were spent flat on the couch, working on the edits for Hearts in Hiding and wondering if I'd ever get back to normal, which for most people include walking, sitting and standing without being in pain.

Anyone who's ever lived with pain knows what a blessing it is to experience a day free of pain. So today, six months post spinal fusion, I'm celebrating holes in my shoes! Praise the Lord!

I'm blessed to live next door to a lovely park that has several different walking trails. Mornings are the best time. The day is still refreshingly cool and the park is quiet, perfect for spending time with the Lord, or thinking through a new project or listening to books on my iPod. There's just something about a good book and a beautiful day that makes time slip away. Since April, I've walked over 250 miles. That's the distance from Atlanta to Nashville!

If it's been a while since you visited a local park, Fall is the perfect time to spend a day enjoying the changing colors and slight chill in the air with family and friends.

Hearts in Hiding

Engineer Edie Michaels loves her life—she has a good job, close friends, even a chance at romance with former soldier Beau Daniels. But she could lose everything if her secret comes out…that she's the German daughter of a devoted Nazi.

And when her father sends spies to force her loyalty, everything Edie values is at risk.

Time in a Nazi POW camp changed army medic Beau Daniels. When he discovers a letter of Edie's written in German, he can't help his suspicions. Is she truly the woman he's started to love? Or has she been the enemy all along? With Nazis on Edie's trail, the pair must fight for truth, for survival—and for love.

  1. Congrats on the walking and wearing out the shoes. So glad you are now basically pain free. I have had back pain but not constant like you did and I know its not fun. I also have knee pain most of the time but its controllable. I know if I over do some things like gardening or if I kneel I know I will pay for it. Its been hurting the past few days due to walking so much more.

    The book sounds good too.
Oh looks like I will be in Atlanta Monday May 6th (I arrive 9.15pm on the 5th) But plan to have the Monday in Atlanta to meet a few people.

  2. Hey Jenny!
My husband is the one with knee pain and he hates walking--says the pain outweighs the benefits. But I still keep pushing him. . .

I'll clear my calendar for May 6th! I'm sure there's a lot of us who can't wait to meet you and show you our town!

    Blessings,
    Patty

  3. Congrats, Patty on your milestone. I can't wear out my walking shoes because during half of the year, I walk in my bare feet on the beach. I'm headed there this morning.

  4. Patty, on first glance, I couldn't determine what the picture was! LOL Your toe sticking out of your shoe!

    Fantastic!

So happy for your return to good health. You had a long, hard struggle. Thanking God for your surgery and recovery.

  5. I'd LOVE to walk the beach every morning when it's warm! Dan and I were down in the Bahamas about a month ago and the poor man couldn't drag me off the beach.

  6. Well, it may look like my big toe, but actually, it's my thumb. ~grin~

And yes, I'm praising the Lord for this return to good health. It's a joy to get up every morning and be able to do things, especially write--I'm so excited I don't have to write laying on my back anymore!

Sorry I'm going to miss you at M&M--can't wait to hear about it though.

  7. Hi Patty! Those are definitely some worn out walking shoes!!! Time for a new pair. I'm so pleased for your recovery. Yay! All praise and glory to God.

I loved, loved, loved Hearts in Hiding. I read it on the trip to Dallas and hated to put it down long enough to board the plane. When I reached the hotel, I had two pages left. Registration? It could wait. I am so hooked on the characters and storylines. Cannot wait to read the next one.

  11. Hey Sandra,
Got to tell you and Debby--I downloaded your books for my mother who loved them! Asked me about your other titles and made a wish list for her kindle.

And I'm thankful for all my friends who came by today, and for the many prayers you prayed for me during my recovery.

    Blessings,
    Patty
