Because I Love You: Mother's Day

Several times over the years, my birthday has fallen on Mother's Day, as it will this year. My mom went home to the Lord 30 years ago, but I'm really thinking of her this year. Doesn't matter how old you are or how old your children are, Mother's Day is special for all concerned. Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there. You matter, and you will always matter. God bless you all!

Arlene James

My mother is dead and I miss my mother everyday. But she will always be with me in my memories. The job of being a mother is one of the most important jobs a person can have. Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there.

"The day God made me a mother was one of the happiest moments of my life.
Being a mother to my two daughters is such a gift. I
try to give them all the love my own mother gave me.
Wishing everyone a blessed Mother's Day."

Twelve years ago, I lost my mom when she was far too young. Each year on Mother's day I go to her grave with flowers and do my best to remember all the happy times we shared. Love and miss you, Mom!

Laura Scott

Terri Reed

To my mom, Grandma, and Aunt Katie who surrounded me with love and tried (really tried) to import wisdom.  I miss you every day.

For all the moms of babies and toddlers--bless you. Your days are long, your shirts stained from tiny fingers, and, yes, your children need you. You matter.
For all the moms of tweens and teens--bless you. You no longer can make problems disappear with a cookie, the hugs aren't as bountiful as they were a few years ago, and, yes, your children need you. You matter.
For all the moms of adults--bless you. You aren't as involved in the daily lives of your kids, and sometimes you miss those days gone by, and, yes, your children need you. You matter.
Happy Mother's Day

Jill Kemerer

Thanks Mom for being the grammar police as I was growing up.
I'm still relying on what you taught me.

Whether you're a mom, stepmom, grandmother, aunt, or friend, chances are you've made a difference in someone's life and you may not even know it. So this mother's day, I'd like to wish you all a happy and blessed mother's day, and my prayer is that each of you will realize just how important you are to someone. Happy Mother's Day...

Mary Alford.

My mother has been gone two years now and I miss her dearly but a story I’d like to share happened this past summer. I had one of my Amish books come out in hardcover from Thorndike press. I usually get three copies and I always gave one to Mom. I took her book to the library in Abilene KS near where she had lived. When I told the staff I had a book to donate and they realized who I was, the head librarian said, “We sure do miss your mother. She used to come in here and say, ‘My daughter has a new book out and I don’t see it on your shelves.’” Mom loved to promote me.

Happy Mother's Day to all moms and to all women who love children. As always, I give thanks to God for my wonderful mother whose love was unconditional. I also give thanks for my daughter and daughter-in-law. Both of these young women are caring and compassionate mothers who have given me adorable grandchildren who fill my heart with joy. Truly I am blessed!

Debby Giusti

I didn't receive the blessing of one mom, but three. And this last year, with the death of my husband (their son and son-in-law), they have surrounded me, prayed for me, hugged me, offered encouraging words, cried with me, and offered financial assistance when it was needed. These women have taught me how to love, to wife, and to mother. I feel cherished and loved by for Him to have blessed me with such strong and caring women. I pray I can do the same for my daughters and my daughter-in-law. Happy Mother's Day, MOMS!!!!!!

Of May and Mothers

Jean C. Gordon here. For me, May has been all about mothers. To start, I was invited to write a Mother's Day piece for the Harlequin Reader Service Simply Books Extra Home page. It's a tribute to my mother. I love the picture. Mom and Dad had it taken for their 50th wedding anniversary. http://simplybooksextra.readerservice.com/simplybooksextra/2013/05/jean-c-gordont-talks-about-puting-on-your-rose-colored-glasses-for-mothers-day/.

Next was Mother's Day itself. We had special music at church — my husband is in the choir — including "Be Still My Heart" and as our closing song, "Lord, I Lift Your Name on High," one of my favorites. All mothers received a handkerchief, pen, and quote. My quote was "Children are a great comfort in your old age — and they help you reach it faster too." by Lionel Kauffman. (Does he know our son?)

Back at home, my daughter and her family gave me just what I wanted and needed, a courier bag to carry all my stuff back and forth to work. And it's my favorite color. My husband made me mac and cheese and asparagus for dinner.

After the holiday, it was back to work on my current manuscript, which is full of mothers and babies. The heroine is a midwife and the hero an obstetrician. I have my own resident expert for the book, my daughter who's a certified nurse midwife. My deadline to get the book to my editor is June 1.

Finally, I'm looking forward to the July release of my next Love Inspired, the third in my Paradox Lake series, appropriately titled Small-Town Mom.

So, what do you have going on this May?

Happy Mother's Day

I'd like to wish my mother a happy Mother's Day! Thanks, Mother, for all the ways you made my childhood special!
Missy Tippens

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there. My mother has passed away but there isn't a day I don't think about her and all she gave me--love, support and good examples of how to live.
Margaret Daley

Happy Mother's Day.  I miss my mother so much.  My favorite memory is waking up in the middle of the night and finding her in the kitchen drinking hot tea. She's pour me a cup and we'd sit like adults and just talk.
Pamela Tracy

Sending love and prayers to moms everywhere and wishing all the moms who visit this blog a very Happy Mother's Day!
Debby Giusti

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms. You are special every day of the year, not just today. My mom's love and encouragement have given me the confidence to follow my dreams. How blessed I am to still have her around so I can ask for advice, get treasured recipes, and share stories and laughter. May God bless every mom.
Christine Johnson

Have a wonderful day, mothers one and all! This one is for you, Mom.

Miss you.

To all the mothers out there:

Who didn’t just walk away and leave their screaming toddler in the store during the throes of another tempter tantrum.

Who didn’t disown their mouthy teenagers, or send them to live with their father, or mail them to China...with no return address.

To those who raced to the Emergency room without makeup in the middle of the night and said, “It doesn’t matter about the car. I’m just glad you’re alive,” and meant it.

To those who dried heartbreak tears over the boy or girl you were ecstatic to hear was history.

To those who cried during the wedding, babysat the grandkids when you or they were sick and never heard more than a hurried word of thanks.

To those who helped pick up the pieces of a broken marriage, your own or your children’s.

You are out there and you know who I mean.

Happy Mother’s Day. May God continue to give you strength, cause He sure enough blessed you with more than enough LOVE.
Patricia Davids

I have been very blessed with a God fearing mother and this year I am spending the day with her. This is rare because I live in New Mexico and she's in Oklahoma. So where ever you are I wish you all A happy Mothers Day!!!
Rhonda Gibson

Wishing all the mothers out there a Happy Mother's Day! Although my mother is no longer on this earth with me, I was blessed to have her for a mother and will always treasure my memories of her. They become more special with each passing year.

Happy Mother's Day to all the mother's out there. I am grateful to my mother for introducing me to the world of books. She passed away many years before I had a book published, but my mother-in-law was my biggest cheerleader until she passed away at the end of last year. I miss them both.

Precious Words

Pamela Tracy here. My son is five. With five, comes lots of maturity (yes, I'm smiling). The day he turned five, a mere three months ago, he took me by the hand and led me to his bathroom so we could remove all the toys from the tub because "I'm five now."

Yesterday, Mother's Day, I climbed out of bed and headed for the kitchen. After a minute, I heard Mikey's door open and he joined me. Poking his head around the refrigerator, he said, "Happy Mother's Day." I looked in my own bedroom to see if Daddy was up to prompt Mikey in this greeting. Nope. My son, age five, remembered on his own. Wow.

Last Thursday, his little pre-school had a mother's tea (last year I really messed up and thought it was a tea). As we sat at a table in a gym, watching the video chronicaling he and his classmates school year, I opened the Mother's Day card he'd made me for. The card started sentences and Mikey's teachers had filled in how he finished them. Here they are. Mikey's responses are in bold.

My mom looks best after she gets a hair cut.
My mom likes to make breakfast and lunch.
My mom always says we have to go to school.
My mom likes to play trains with me.

Precious words, eh?

Mother's Day is every day

I had an interesting, different kind of Mother's Day. A few days ago, one of my best
friends lost her mother. Miss Hilda Marie was in her eighties. She was such a sweet, delightful woman. The funeral was held on the same day a group of us were headed to Florida to the beach. We left the graveside and changed clothes and headed out, somber about leaving our friend behind but happy to be on the road. At the beach, I visited with my own daughter (Pictured with me here) who lives there and teaches high school. We all had a great time shopping and beaching and just hanging out. But we were still sad about Miss Hilda. (I named a character in my "In the Garden" series after her. The Sunday after she passed away, the choir sang that very song--In the Garden.)

After we made it home through some storms, I was more tired than when I left--probably because we stayed up late, laughing and talking, we played too much in the sand and the pool and the lazy river and we shopped and ate too much. That long drive in unpredictable weather seemed to drag on, but we made it through. Then my son left for Florida to spend the summer with his sister. So I have an empty nest. He left the day before Mother's Day. But he did leave me a little message on the refrigerator. I have lots of refrigerator magnets from places I've traveled andfrom friend--the kind with those cute sayings on them ( a lot of them involving shoes.)I like them arranged all organized and pretty. My son always came along and rearranged them just to aggravate me. On Sunday afternoon, I noticed he'd done it again. He'd taken all my rooster magnets and staggered them down the refrigerator like doorsteps. I had to laugh. His way of getting the last word.

Anyway, Mother's Day this year was different. My mother died when I was in my twenties and my husband's mother died a few years ago. No flowers to send, no phone calls to make. Just a quiet day for the two of us. But my son and daughter did call to wish me a happy day. And it was a bittersweet, happy day. Because I've never been real keen on Mother's Day anyway. When you're a mother, every day is Mother's Day. Every day, you find some joy, some pain, and little reminders that being a mother is a wonderful thing--through the good and the bad of raising children. You're a mother when a child calls crying and upset. You're a mother when a child laughs at your lame jokes or rolls his eyes in disdain. You're a mother when a friend is hurting and needs a listening ear. You're a mother when you hear horrible things on the evening news. And you're still a mother when you stand at your refrigerator and realize your babies are all grown up and marching to the beat of a different drummer.

Mother's Day is never-ending, always challenging, and worth every bit of effort.

We wouldn't have it any other way, would we?

Lenora :)
