The Shepherd's Bride and Inspiration

Patricia Davids here.
My latest book, The Shepherd's Bride, is in stores now. I do love the cover. It fits the story perfectly.
As I was writing this story, I thought often about the 23rd Psalm and how the Lord is our shepherd.

You might think my story is about how a shepherd takes care of his flock, but it's really about how a young woman takes care of her family and helps a young shepherd who has lost his way.

Lizzie is a woman with a mission. She has to find a home for her three sisters before her oldest sister is forced to marry a horrible man. What Lizzie doesn't have is much time, but what she does have is courage and determination.

I enjoy research and visiting a sheep farm during lambing season was the perfect way to spend an informative day. I'll never forget the sight of the lambs leaping and playing together. I hope you enjoy my story, too.

My question for you is: Who is the bravest person you know?
My husband, when he was facing death from cancer, was truly a brave man. I imagine you have known someone brave, too. Who is it?

  1. Bravest person I know? Probably my missionary friend Holly. She's been all over the world. I so admire that spirit of courage!

  2. Dana, thanks for visiting. I hope you have shared with Holly how much you admire her work. It would take a lot of courage to travel the world and reach out to people in our Lord's name.

  3. Im not sure but I use to babysit a little girl who had kidney cancer and had to have the kidney out and also had heart and lung surgery. I think she was very brave she was 4 when it started time. She was declared in remission around 7 but she said as a teen she was lucky cos she was having regular check ups so if anything came up she would know where as some may not know til it was to late.

  4. I don't know that I can pick one person. I think we all can be brave when the circumstances present themselves.

  5. I admire our men and women in uniform who endure difficult hardships and extreme danger! They're my brave heroes!

Your story sounds lovely, Pat. So sorry about your hubby. Too many folk have cancer, including too many young people. I pray for a breakthrough in treatment.

  6. Your story sounds intriguing, and I love that cover. I've always thought sheep and lambs are so cute!

My Daddy was the bravest person I've ever known (and also the smartest).

I'm so sorry your husband lost his battle with cancer. Such a horrific disease and I continue praying a cure will be found.

    Blessings, Patti Jo

  7. Jenny, your story touched my heart. We don't think of children as being brave, but they can be. I hope she finds a lifetime of health and joy.

  8. Thanks, Debbie.
My husband was a sailor on submarines before and during our early marriage. He worked with some brave guys. I, too, admire our troops.

Every girl should think of her daddy as a hero. I know I do. Thanks for visiting today.

  10. I'd say my dad too. He was in two wars, had only a sixth grade education, and was the hardest working man I know.

  11. Pat She has a heart to help. She is nursing with elderly people. She such a sweety and she has done something here call shave for cure. Thats where people either shave their heads or cut their hair and raise money for cancer research.

  12. My daughter and my son. I watched my daughter fight like a warrior when she was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. She's less than 1% survivorship in the world now. And my son, who literally is a warrior, serving active duty as a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps. He's served several tours of duty overseas. How I got two such brave children, I'll never know. God really blessed me.

  13. So many brave people! Thank you all for sharing the stories of those you know. My friend with terminal ovarian cancer came to mind. She accomplished so much for the Lord during the time she had left on earth. Such a bright light shining in the darkness! She still inspires me.

Pat, your book sounds wonderful, and I agree about the cover. It's perfect.

  15. Wow, Pat, that is so beautiful. One of my friends has cancer right now, and is doing beautifully, and her bravery in how she is fighting and more importantly, living, inspires me daily.

  16. Loved your book. Just loved it for so many reasons.

I know people dealing with what every one has listed. But today I am thinking of all those who lost family or limbs in the Boston Marathon bombing. So many have done so much facing fear and pain over the last year.

    Peace, Julie
