Sharing a Summer Recipe

Missy Tippens, here. Summer is in full swing, and I'm really enjoying grilling out! Recently, I was about to boil some fresh corn-on-the-cob, but since I was already grilling hot dogs, I decided to grill the corn as well.

So I went to the Food Network website (one of my favorite channels as well as website!) and looked to see how Bobby Flay grills corn. One of his recipes just called for husking/shucking it (peeling off the husks and silks) and putting it directly over very hot coals for 5-7 minutes (turning frequently). I decided to lightly oil the corn first, then put it on my gas grill. I turned it several times until it looked just like this photo! I ended up grilling it for a little over 7 minutes. And oh, my! It was so yummy! I'll never boil it again in the summer.

What are some of your favorite things to grill? I'd love it if you'd share your recipes!

  1. This summer is the first time I have had grilled corn but I did it with the husks and silk still on. It took a little longer to cook (12 to 14 minutes - turning once or twice). The corn absorbed the smoky flavor of the oak chips in the fire. I loved the smoky sweet flavor of the corn.

Then again, I did not start grilling until I bought my first grill last year.

  2. Last night I made 'creamed corn' for the first time from scratch! I cut it off the cob, cooked it in the skillet with some bacon & vidalia onion & butter beans, then added some heavy cream! I don't think you can get much worse than the combo of bacon & heavy cream!LOL!
Anyway, I've never been a fan of the canned stuff since it was the only thing we had to eat when I was growing up. Canned cream corn & grape popsicles three times a day. My version was WAY better!

  4. Grilling chicken with my mother in laws secret recipe is my fave grilled thing. But I just learned how to cook husk on corn on the cob in the microwave. 3 minutes for the first ear, one minute more for each additional ear and it is fantastic. And no boiling water!

  5. Missy, I grill mine too or if the grill isn't on, I stick it under the broiler over my toaster or in the oven. I leave the husks and all on and cook them for about ten minutes each side. Since learning to do this, I've totally sworn off boiled corn. I do like the idea of having that smoky flavor from the grill, though, in my case, mesquite chips. Wish I had some now!!

  6. Good recipe. We'll have to try it. We haven't had much luck with corn before. Our favorite bbq is baby back pork ribs. Yum!

  7. I've been out of town and just got back to finally check your comments. Thanks for stopping by and sharing! I'm absolutely starving, so reading your favorites has my stomach growling! :)

I'll have to be sure to try grilling or broiling with the husks on. Sounds so easy! Do you pull the silks off first and then re-wrap?

  8. Dennis, I'm glad you stopped by. I need to remember to add wood chips to my gas grill sometime. I think I can get a little holder to put inside.

Pamela M., I LOVE homemade cream corn! Have never tried it myself, though. I'll have to do it. And you're right. Anything with cream and bacon has to be good. LOL

And the microwave??! I always love the ease of the microwave. :)
