Sunday Scripture & Prayer Requests

Second Sunday in Advent

The Baptism of Christ, painted by Andrea del Verrocchio and his
student, Leonardo da Vinci, 1472-1475, Uffizi Gallery, Florence.
[PS-US]

The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ the Son of God.

As it is written in Isaiah the prophet:
Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you;
he will prepare your way.
A voice of one crying out in the desert:
"Prepare the way of the Lord,
make straight his paths."

John the Baptist appeared in the desert
proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
People of the whole Judean countryside
and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem
were going out to him
and were being baptized by him in the Jordan River
as they acknowledged their sins.
John was clothed in camel's hair,
with a leather belt around his waist.
He fed on locusts and wild honey.
And this is what he proclaimed:
"One mightier than I is coming after me.
I am not worthy to stoop and loosen the thongs of his sandals.
I have baptized you with water;
he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit."
Mark 1:1-8

If you have prayer needs, please mention them in the comments section so we can join you in prayer. You do not need to include specific names or situations of a private nature, just say that you have a prayer request. The Lord knows your heart and the needs you have. It is a privilege and honor to pray with you and for you.

  1. Thanks to all of you who have been praying for my son, Jonathan! I'm so blessed. He passed his exam this last week, but his grade wasn't as high as we would have liked. He needs to pass his final exam with an 84% to stay in the program. Please continue praying for him if you don't mind.

    Also, I have added all of you to my prayer list. With God's support we can do anything!

  3. For all of you who prayed for my son Jonathan, he passed his class with an 85% on his final exam! God has answered our prayers and I'm so blessed to have so many prayer warriors on our side. Jonathan has one more semester to go and I know he's going to be a great nurse! Thanks again, Laura
