Romantic Suspense ideas?

HI, Terri Reed here. I'm in the middle of writing my 24th novel for Harlequin's Love Inspired line. The first five or so books I wrote were Love Inspired Romances, and the rest have been Love Inspired Suspense. I tend to gravitate toward the romantic suspense genre because I love the action, the tension and the mystery. Coupling suspense with romance is such a great way to get best of both genres. I'm always looking for unique and interesting ways to put my hero and heroines in danger.
Is there anything you haven't seen done that might pose a good threat for my characters?
I'd love to hear your ideas!

The second book in my Protection Specialists: Guarding the Innocent series comes out in January 2012. This book is set in Mississippi at winter time. I tried to give the book a gothic feel, complete with an old house, creepy relatives and a sinister villain all of which make life difficult for our hero and heroine.

A Shocking Revelation!

Finding out she is heir to a fortune shocks Caroline Tully to her core. And to “qualify” for the inheritance, she just has to visit her newfound grandfather’s Mississippi home from Christmas to New Year’s. Adopted as a baby, Caroline knows nothing about her mother’s family...and doesn’t realize they can’t be trusted. When attempts are made on her life, there’s only one man who can protect her. Donovan Cavanaugh—a man who made her lonely heart want to love again. Posing as her fiancé, Don promises to find the would-be killer. But will his protection—and his love—be enough to keep her safe?

Upcoming 2012 titles:

June 2012--The Deputy's Duty, book 6 of the Fitzgerald Bay continuity series

September 2012--The Doctor's Protector, the third book in the Protection Specialists: Guarding the Innocent series.

  3. I have not been as much of a reader of romantic suspense but I am taking those sorts of books on a very long plane ride because I think they will hold my interest and make the time pass.

Too bad this one does come out before I leave. What a great premise!

Have you thought about a mixture of natural disasters and crime. The heightened nature of things you can't control is always intriguing to me. The earthquake hitting DC where I was born opened my eyes to all sorts of possibilities. Ohhhhh, natural disasters and the Smithsonian!

    Peace, Julie

  4. I look forward to this coming out, Terri. I read every book of yours that comes out! I enjoy romantic suspense books. I visited the Smithsonian quite a few years ago and would love to go back now when I can take more time....I was so rushed back then!

  5. Julie, I pray you have a safe journey. Books will definitely help pass the time.
Good suggestion on natural disasters and incorporating that in to a suspense. I'll play with the idea.
    Thank you for stopping by.

  6. Valri, you so sweet! I hope the book will be enjoyable.
I like Julie's idea of using the Smithsonian. I've been there too. There is so much to see. Its a bit overwhelming. I did mention the Smithsonian Castle in The Innocent Witness.
Thank you Valri for stopping by.

  7. Jessica, isn't though! I think the art department does such a good job with the covers for all the Love Inspired lines.

  9. Ooooh - your blurb hooked me totally. And I devoured gothic novels back in the 70s. This one must go on my TBR pile.

  10. Hi Terri:

I’d like to read a book where the heroine owns a skydiving school and accidents happen. One student is killed when the parachute does not open correctly. The hero is an ex-pilot who was badly injured in a plane crash which killed his wife and child. It was not pilot error but he blames himself. He is now a detective.

    Why are the accidents happening?
    1. trying to close the school
    2. trying to kill the heroine
    3. trying to kill someone else
    4. some other nefarious reason

The idea would be to show a whole lot about skydiving so the reader could learn about it and experience the thrills. Of course, the hero has a problem because he won’t get in a plane to say nothing of actually flying one again.

I like stories where I learn about interesting activities. This could also be about mountain climbing, skin diving, white water river rafting.

  11. Winnie, I loved the old gothic too.
Hi Pam, hope you like it if you do get a chance to read.

Vince, wow, you've really thought this out. I like the idea of a skydiving school. skydiving is one of those activities I'd love to try but am afraid to try. I also like the white water rafting idea. Hmmm. I will explore these ideas and let you know what I come up with in upcoming books. Thanks so much.
