Holy Week by Merrillee Whren
This week is a special week for Christians across the world as we lead up to the most glorious celebration of our faith--the resurrection of Jesus our Lord. Yesterday was Palm Sunday, a day we remember the triumphal entry that Jesus made into Jerusalem the week before He was crucified for us. Below is a photo of children carrying palm branches as they prepare to sing. In the following photos they are singing praises to God in the way that only children do. No wonder Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
What special things do you do to celebrate Holy Week?

Merrillee, I love seeing the kids come in with palm branches! We did the same thing yesterday. We also had the kids from our confirmation class join the church on Palm Sunday as well. They spoke and led the service, too. They did a fantastic job!
ReplyDeleteI loved your pictures, Merrillee. We all walk in with palm branches in our church.
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful pictures. I always think it is so precious when we let our children participate in the service in a special way.
ReplyDeleteMissy, how nice that the children led the service.
ReplyDeleteMargaret, I like the idea of everyone walking with a palm branch. Can you imagine what it was like to be there the day that Jesus made His entry into Jerusalem.
ReplyDeleteWinnie, it is always fun when kids get a part in the service. They are so eager and enthusiastic.
ReplyDeleteWe don't live in the town where our church is located, so every year our whole family gathers at a hotel on Holy Saturday so we can all attend services together without spending all our time driving back and forth (lots of that during Holy Week anyway!) The kids and grandkids love getting to go swimming and eating out, and we all benefit from less stress and more focus.
ReplyDeletePrecious!
ReplyDeleteWe also enter Church waving the Palms. In fact, the Service starts outside and only enters after the first reading and prayer.
It also touches me to tears as somehow I'm imagining what it must have been like and what we're (He Is) about to Live.
I only work Monday and Tuesday this Holy Week. Wednesday I take care of things around the House so I can only be dedicated to The Sanctum Tridou Paschale that starts on Thursday with the Last Supper Celebration (includes the wash of feet by the Priest to 12 men of our Church) and then until Sunday it's days dedicated to prayers and penitence. On Sunday there will be Happiness and Rejoicing.
Wishing you all a Blessed Holy Week,
Teresa
Love those photos of the precious children, Merrillee! I have such fond memories of when my kiddos were little and they'd enter our former church (with the other children) waving the palm branches. Holy Week is such a special time--may our hearts be prepared to remember all that Christ did for us. ~ Hugs, Patti Jo
ReplyDeleteDeb, what a fun way to have a special family time and focus on the Easter season.
ReplyDeleteTeresa, your church has a wonderful way of celebrating the Easter season.
ReplyDeletePatti Jo, it is a wonderful time to focus our attention on what Christ did for us. Preparing our hearts is important.
