The Suspense Is Killing Me--Lenora Worth

Hello, Readers and Writers! Around here, we love suspense! So beginning today, we are celebrating our love of things that go bump in the night and doors that creak and houses that never have lights on at midnight. "Did you hear something?"

It's Harlequin's Romantic Suspense Event! Not quiet as fun as a shoe clearance but it ranks right up there. If you visit our Harlequin website at www.eharlequin.com you can take a fun quiz, enter a contest to win a year's subscription to your favorite series line and to win a gift card and have fun with so many other things, it's like running from a bad guy and right into the arms of Mr. Right On Time :)

And there's more. We will be on Twitter suspensing with the hashtag #HarlequinSuspense and we'll have a Pinterest board that is all about romantic suspense. So many clues????

We'll be all over Facebook, too, like fingerprint smudges on a white wall! So much fun my head is exploding.

Now, I'm wondering. What are some of your favorite suspenseful TV shows? What are some of your favorite romantic suspense books and authors? What would you like to see more of in the way of romantic suspense? And what is your pet peeve when it comes to romantic suspense plots and characters?

Answer one or more of these questions in your posts and I'll draw two names to give away copies of my creepiest romantic suspense ever--Deadly Holiday Reunion.  Let's discuss why we love romance and suspense mixed together to make us sigh and make us run away in fear!

  1. I love suspense. I like the early BONES and the early CSI back when it was Los Vegas and not so convoluted. I've watched one CASTLE episode and look forward to the rest.

  2. I really enjoy anything with a mystery/ puzzle to solve. Lately, I've gotten hooked on Forever, the TV show about the coroner who can't die. I've always loved reading romantic suspense beginning way back with Victoria Holt. The Love Inspired authors are all so good! Can't pick just one. I'm an Irene Hannon fan, as well.

  3. I agree, Pamela. Love al of those. Castle is adorable if you don't take it too seriously. Love how he is such a writer. I love all of the CSI shows but miss the good old days on those :) I like Forever, too. Interesting premise.

  4. Linda, you are right about Victoria Holt. I love Daphne du Maurier, too.

  5. My favorite suspense shows are NCIS, NCIS Los Angeles, and Elementary. Therefore, Carol Steward's "In the Line of Fire" series has been my favorite. I have read these stories several times. I love strong, godly female characters and the men who can appreciate them.

  10. Does writing suspense come naturally to you or was it a skill you developed?

Would anyone know of any researches that would help me in my quest to write suspensefully?

Thank you for any suggestions you may have.

  12. I read every Nancy Drew book as a young girl. Now my granddaughter is doing the same. Maybe she'll write suspense someday! :)

I'm between TV shows now and need to find something good to watch. Loved The Killing. Started The Following, but that got much too dark for me. Any suggestions?

Yes, yes, yes to Daphne du Maurier and Victoria Holt.

Zombie, read lots of suspense stories, such as LIS, and then start writing your own. You'll learn as you write. Visit some of the blogs that talk about writing techniques. I'm on www.seekerville.blogspot.com. We have info in our archives, with something new on each day's post. Plus we give away books. The Harlequin website has a lot of information too. Check that out, for sure! Good luck!

  13. Thank you, Debby.

I'll keep working on it. In the meantime, I'll enjoy the learning process by reading LIS.

  15. We got hooked on Rizzoli & Isles! Also like NCIS, Forensic Files, Snapped, Cold Case Files.
We had to drop cable recently so there goes my shows :(
I like the few Love Inspired Suspense I've read so far, but I don't really have a favorite author in the genre yet. They are all so good, how can one choose?
Thank you for the chance to win a copy of "Deadly Holiday Reunion"!

  16. I'm so exited about this Romantic Suspense month. Definitely my favorite genre.

I cut my teeth on the Happy Hollisters - mysteries (and mild at that), then on to Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys, etc.

Fast forward - oh yes Daphne Du Maurier, Victoria Holt and Phyllis Whitney's mysteries. I think those ladies are probably why I wanted to write.

Aside from my addiction to Nashville, most of the only shows I've ever gotten caught up in are suspense/police/etc. Castle has me every Monday night. Last week I stumbled upon Secrets and Lies and that took up two hours since once it started, I couldn't turn it off.

  17. Romantic suspense is definitely my favorite genre. I love the Alaskan Courage series by Dani Pettrey, Deadly Reunion and Women of Justice series by Lynette Eason, and anything by Terri Blackstock.

  18. Hello again. I was at a conference this weekend but I have read the posts. Trixi, I like Rozzoli and Isles, too. Two strong but very different women. Melissa, we're glad you like romantic suspense. We enjoy writing it! Mary Curry, I DVDed Secrets and Lies. It looks intriguing! Zombie Anne, Debby gave you good advice. Also, Writer's Digest has some great how-to books on the subject :)

  19. I enjoy watching Father Brown and also Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries on TV.
While the first one is not romantic the second one is.
Miss Fisher's MM is romance and suspense with a twist.
