What's SPEEDBO?

Debby Giusti here, waving to all my Love Inspired reader and writer friends!

Have you noticed #Speedbo circulating on social media? If so, you may have wondered about the new hashtag. It's a shortened version of the words Speed Book and stands for the March, month-long writing challenge featured on www.seekerville.net

Many of you know about NaNoWriMo, the Internet writing project that runs each November. Speedbo is similar, although each participant submits their own personal writing goal for the 31-day period. The goal is kept private, is never shared and serves only as motivation.

Knowing other writers are pushing forward with their own work helps to build community within the seemingly solitary writing world. Many of us need support and encouragement, which Speedbo provides. The focus is on finding time to write. No editing needed, just page after page of story that adds up with time.

As of now, 125 writers have signed on and are writing toward their goals. Want to join in the fun? Sign up at Seekers@Seekerville.net. There's no charge, but there are weekly prizes. Anyone who leaves a comment on the daily Seekerville blog is entered and has a chance to win a $25 Amazon gift card or a one-chapter critique. Plus, you'll get a certificate of participation to hang near your computer to spur you on!

For those who have dreamed of writing, what's stopping you? Speedbo is the perfect time to get started!

Happy writing!

Wishing you abundant blessings,
Debby Giusti

With the killer nearby, Colleen must depend on the kindness of Special Agent Frank Gallagher. 4. This reminds me of the BIAM (Book in a Month) groups that truly motivated me early on in my writing. Great idea for motivation!

  5. I love SPEEDBO. I love that over a hundred (130 now, I think!) are encouraging each other at no cost, every one striving to do their best and develop the habit of writing. Aspiring authors and lots of established ones, too, working together.

Carolyne Aarsen's there today, on Seekerville.... Emily Rodmell's coming on the 17th... but it's not about the blog, it's all about encouraging each other, lamenting and laughing.

We are blessed to have so many Love Inspired authors cheering one another on to success. You guys rock! And Deb, what a nice shout out!

  6. SpeedBo is a great motivator for me, Debby. And I love the no rules freedom. I'm revising a book. Whatever the goal, writing new or getting a written book whipped into shape, we push our productivity and cheer each other on.

  11. Hi Debby,

I'll give Speedbo a plug. The book I wrote during last March's Speedbo was my first sale to LIS.

Great fun with lots of support and a tangible accomplishment by the end of the month.

  13. No Speedbo or NaNo for this writer. Way too stressful. Personal challenges I can do, but that's about it, Debby. Wishing many free-flowing words to those who are taking part in the challenge, though.

  16. I admit, committing to Speedbo intimidates me just a wee bit, but I do appreciate the motivation and encouragement! I'm just glad this year I am actually in a position to get some real writing done this month instead of facing too many edits and revisions that have to take precedence!

  30. Myra, you're right. Speedbo works best when we need to write a manuscript. With editing, it's a bit more difficult to keep track of our progress.

    Good luck!
