Reading Christian romance is one of my favorite ways to
relax. I escape into a place someone created for my enjoyment. The journey
through a previously unknown world unfolds on the stage in the theater of my mind.
I love to curl up in the corner of the couch with a diet
soda or cold water and get lost in a good story.
My favorite time of day to read is late afternoon when I’m
home alone without distractions. My absolute favorite place to read is in a hammock or beach chair on a cruise in the Caribbean.
Another place I love to read is on a cruise ship balcony.
Yep. I love that.
Let’s be honest, though. Most of life isn’t spent on
vacation. Reading is my vacation for the normal days. More often than not, the
closest water is a hot bath at home after everyone else in the family is
asleep.
On those normal days, I find myself following a heartbroken
character as she seeks God and peace. Knowing she'll find a handsome husband by the end of
the book makes it all the more interesting.
I’ll read in the car. I’ll read in a waiting room. I’ll
read with my mom when I visit her. She’s a fast reader, turning three pages for
every one that I read. That means she passes her books to me quicker.
When I find myself at home alone overnight, I love to lay
across the bed and read until I can’t stay awake another minute. Why do authors
write those lines that make you turn the page? Don’t they know I have to work
tomorrow?
This is not my bedroom, but it is my quilt. I love the peaceful
colors. The green reminds me of the Caribbean, and it’s the only way I could
sneak some pink into the master bedroom.

Like you, Angel, I can read anywhere. My father once said I could read through a hurricane. He was right—at the time I was reading, oblivious to the hurricane outside. :) My favorite time to read is late afternoon, too. Or a rainy day when I can be curled up with a book and a quilt on the couch as the rain pours down outside.
ReplyDeleteWow. Can't say I've ever read through a hurricane! That's impressive concentration, Lisa.
DeleteI love going outside to read, (when its not too hot). There's something about being in the peaceful country setting where we live that makes for the perfect reading room.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds nice. I love a breeze and shade or I have to go inside. :)
DeleteI read in bed before I fall asleep. Wish I could take time in the day to read...
ReplyDeleteIt relaxes me to read, so I like to read in bed, too. I just can't get my husband to agree to the light being on. lol
DeleteI, too, can read anywhere, but I usually read on my recliner couch in the evening while my husband watches TV. Relaxing in the tub is another spot. I have a gallon-size zip-lock bag for my Kindle.
ReplyDeleteI love to read in the tub, but I stick to paperbacks. I never considered bagging my Kindle.
DeleteI enjoy reading on my front porch. It gets the afternoon sun and is so toasty warm. A beach is a great place to read to, but I can't get there as often.
ReplyDeleteI live near the beach and don't get there often. I love to go in the evening, but then I want to walk. The porch sounds nice.
DeleteI love reading in my recliner at home in my family room, but I can read anywhere too. Especially if it's research for my next book. I find that research is the funnest part of writing a book. But I also love a good novel. It seems to regenerate me for writing my own books. I never read on vacation because there's too much to see and do and I can read when I get home. But I think most writers are also voracious readers. We all seem to be bibliophiles. :)
ReplyDeleteFunny how we're all different. I save books that I want to read strictly for pleasure for vacation reads. I wish I had more time to read everything that interests me.
DeleteFun topic, Angel! I do most of my pleasure reading propped up in bed an hour or so before light-out. When weekend weather is nice, though, I'll sometimes set up my ENO hammock between two shade trees in the backyard and spend the afternoon relaxing with a good book.
ReplyDeleteAhh....a hammock at home. That sounds lovely. I don't have trees to support one. Or shade. lol.
DeleteI love to read in bed and I read sometimes at night while my husband is watching tv. My goal was this year was to read more often. I have books all over the house and I want to read all of them. I love reading on my porch and especially at the beach.
ReplyDeleteYou are making me want to go to the beach more. I must think about this. Maybe a walk and then an hour with a book...
DeleteI read wherever I have a book and some free time. My favorite place to read is at the beach on chair at the water's edge, but since we moved to AZ I don't have beach.
ReplyDeleteOh, no! No beach? I grew up on the coast but moved away. I've been back for 20 years now. Even when I don't go, I love knowing it's close by. Feet in the water while reading sounds fun - unless it's suspense. ;)
DeleteGreat post Angel. I love to read on a long car ride when hubby is driving. I find it so sad that some people can't read in cars due to motion sickness. I also love to read at the beach and on vacation. I sometimes fall asleep reading!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Belle. My husband is an excellent driver, so it's easy to read when he drives. And then...I fall asleep. :)
DeleteI'm sorry to respond so late to the comments. I've been traveling today. Thank you all for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I felt like I was reading about myself when I read this post! I do so much of the same things! I feel like you, reading is my vacation from the normal business of life. I literally take a book with me everywhere I go! My kids and husband think I am a little crazy or pathetic! Lol! Some of my favorite places to read are my bed, my love seat, and at the lake.

I carry a book with me any time I think I'll have any spare time. Thanks for stopping by our blog. I hope you get to read at the lake soon. :)
DeleteMy usual spot to read during the day is on our recliner loveseat in the living room with the footstool up. If my husband decides to watch TV during the evening and I don't wish to watch with him, I have an office/den with a recliner to escape to. I also read in bed before I turn out the light.
ReplyDeleteSo really, just everyday ordinary places :-) I can read anywhere and always have a book in hand when I'm away from home because you never know if you will get stuck somewhere for a while.
I love that you have a plan for any occasion. A book can make an ordinary day a vacation.
DeleteI love to read on the armchair in my living room. I love it when no one else is home and it's quiet.
ReplyDeleteIn other words, in real life, I read when and where I can but never alone in the living room.
Haha! In a perfect world we could have quiet on demand. I used to have a chair and a half that was perfect for reading. It went away when we got a sectional. Now the corner is a cozy spot for me.
