Viva Las Vegas

Kim Watters here. By the time you read this, I'll be knee deep having fun in Las Vegas with my kids over Spring Break. So needless to say, I won't be responding to any comments until I get back. Great timing, don't you think?

Las Vegas you say? With kids? Of course. It was Las Vegas or San Diego in the summer. I think I'm going to save some money and wear the soles off my shoes. It's been over a decade since I've been to Vegas. A lot has changed. Did you know there's 101 FREE things to do? How are we going to cram it all in in three days?

By creating a plan. An outline. A synopsis of sorts. Map in hand and the list, we will work our way from one end of the strip to the other. Kind of like how I plan my books with an outline and synopsis. Working from one end to the other. Of course, I've also factored in free time in Vegas if we find something else to do, the same as I don't quite plan every scene in my books as some scenes pop into my head about a chapter before I need them. That way I feel three's still a bit of surprise factor in both my books and my vacations.

Will we do it? I'll get back to you that.

  1. sounds interesting cant wait to hear what you did. I guess from the here it always looks like the gambling capital of the world with some fancy shows added to the mix.

  2. Kim, I've never been to Las Vegas. Like Ausjenny, it's hard to see it having anything to do besides get married at a drivethru chapel or gamble or go see ladies dancing around. lol I'm interested to hear what you all did! Have fun :)

  3. My neice got married in Vegas. We stood in a foyer waiting for the wedding before hers to end. Then, we shuffled into a small chapel. During the wedding, we could hear the people in foyer who were waiting for our wedding to end so they could have theirs.
    Assembly line weddings.

  4. My brother got married in Las Vegas, but in a church, because his bride was from Las Vegas. While we were there we did all the free stuff. Just touring the hotels is entertainment. There are these fabulous fountains set to music, talking statues, a ship battling pirates and the M&M's store just to name a few. The buffet at the Parisian is unbelievable. If you go, go with an empty stomach--maybe don't eat for two days ahead of time. :)

  6. Kim,
I've never been to Vegas, but my extended family (Mom, siblings and families, etc) are planning a trip out there in the fall. My mom has always wanted to go so this is how we'll celebrate her 78th birthday. Some of us are also planning a side trip to the grand canyon before we head home and I'm REALLY excited about that part.

  7. We lived in the Mojave Desert and used to go to Las Vegas for a little R&R. We took the kids and stayed at hotels off the Strip. The local folks were wonderful, the church we attended was welcoming, and we always came home refreshed from our LV getaways.

  8. Hi Everyone. Thanks for stopping by. We're back. And exhausted. The best part of the trip was seeing my old high school buddy, meeting his wife, and getting to see him play in his church band Sunday morning. The worst was all the smoke in the hotels. Gag. Yes there were wedding chapels everywhere. So was Elvis. We had our picture taken with him by the Welcome to Las Vegas sign. We walked miles and saw as many of the free attractions as possible: the fountains, the flowers, the volcano, pirates, a magic show, a fashion show, circus acts, rated a new reality pilot show, rode the trams, Freemont Street etc. I did try to gamble once--shhh-don't tell my editor-at the nickel slots and had my coin ready to go, but they don't take coins any more. It's all paper. Since I had my kids, and I don't want to promote gambling, I chose not to dig out the dollar and walked away. It really was overwhelming. Can't wait to relax now that we're home. We capped off our trip with a stop to Hoover Dam--and just missed the president by a few hours. Phew! Did not want to get caught up in that traffic. Winnie--enjoy yourself and definitely do the Grand Canyon. I took the kids there last fall. Thanks for stopping by everyone. Have a great day.

  9. Hey Kim, we just got back from Vegas last night! I wish I'd a known you were there :( We could have met up. Like you, we had a great time! Loved the pirate show and the CSI experience. James loves rollercoaster rides and road the one at New York, New York and the one at Circus, Circus. I didn't gamble either, there are just too many other things to do. Loved touring all the different hotels and really enjoyed the Sharks in Mandalay.
