'Tis the Season by Deb Kastner

I’ll bet you read that title and thought, “Wow, Deb is really behind the curve this year.”

Although I admit there were many moments I wasn’t quite certain I'd make it, I’m pleased (and relieved!) to report that I managed to pull our family’s Christmas festivities off on Christmas Day.

My Christmas cactus, however, was definitely late to the party this year.  My mother’s cactus, from which mine was cut, is as regular as clockwork, sprouting blooms just in time to celebrate the nativity.

Mine, not so much.  Okay—never.  My thumb is so black I leave fingerprints.  It’s a wonder any of my plants survive.

So today, I’m celebrating, because my Christmas cactus is blooming.  And it’s beautiful.

My cactus is a good reminder that my ideas for how my life should go are not necessarily God’s best for me.  If I’m a Christmas cactus, I should bloom at Christmas, right?

But maybe I’m supposed to be a Valentine’s flower.  You?

Cupid To The Rescue
Rugged and tough deputy sheriff Eli Bishop isn't scared of anything. Except dogs. When he's assigned a K-9 partner, he thinks things can't get any worse. Then he learns who'll be training him. Local vet Mary Travis is sweet as sugar…but she's also Eli's ex-fiancée's sister. Revealing his humiliating phobia to her is not an option. Neither is developing feelings for Mary—who's built her career around the dogs Eli fears. When a terrible storm hits their town, Mary and Eli must find the courage to work together and save lives—and fall in love.

Serendipity Sweethearts: Three small-town matchmakers finding Texas-size love

HER VALENTINE SHERIFF is Deb's 20th book for Harlequin Love Inspired and is a February 2014 release.

  1. Deb, there must be something in the air. I posted a picture on facebook with my just now blooming cactus! It's a cutting my mother gave me close to forty years ago. It's a huge plant and usually bloom either on Thanksgiving, Christmas or Easter. When we moved, it stopped blooming but now it decided to start back up. I guess, for Valentine's Day! So wonderfully cool that yours is blooming too. God's own time :)

  3. I used to have a Christmas cactus, and it did bloom at Christmas. But I also failed to keep it alive. I've had dozens of plants over the years and never had much trouble keeping them alive. So I was terribly disappointed that my Christmas cactus didn't make it. Maybe I should try again now that I live in the desert. Maybe it will fair better in a drier climate.

  5. I have one of those but ours tend to flower around May - June or around winter time.
Someone gave mum one about 7 or so years ago for her birthday and it came with me. I am keeping it wet as we are starting yet another heatwave.

  7. I agree with Lenora---my Christmas Cactus is ALSO blooming now! It did bloom a little at Christmas, but not like it usually does. Hmmm...maybe it was resting up to put on a lovely show for Valentines!
Thanks for this post, and I'm eager to read your newest book. Blessings from Georgia, Patti Jo
