TEA TIME

Hello friends, Karen Kirst here to talk tea.

This picture is of my favorite scones from a lovely little waterfront tearoom near my home in North Carolina. If you’ve ever been to a tearoom, you know they serve tiny sandwiches and soup in espresso cups and bite-size desserts. Oh, and a variety of tea flavors to suit anyone’s taste! I find the whole experience relaxing in a way my husband will never understand.

Growing up in Tennessee, ice tea ruled. It wasn’t until I spent three months with my husband’s family in Europe that I discovered a love of hot tea. Now I drink it every day, no matter the season. And you’ll find that my characters enjoy it, too.

Have you noticed a culinary theme running through some of your favorite authors’ books? I’m a fan of Jillian Hart’s books, and I noticed a number of her characters like hot chocolate with piles of whipped cream. While you’re thinking about your answers, I’m going to enjoy a cup of white chocolate mousse tea….wish I had a scone to go with it.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I read tea time and think of the evening meal. I have noticed a few books lately either coffee or tea is being mentioned. Have to say I dont like either. Here in May we have the biggest cuppa which is a morning tea with money raised going towards breast cancer. Here on one Thursday people all over the country will hold morning teas and often this will be tea or coffee with cakes, scones etc.

In America what do you call a snack between Breakfast and Lunch, or Lunch and Evening meal? Here its called morning or afternoon tea.
    (not a scone fan myself)

    1. Hi Ausjenny, if we have a midmorning meal, that's brunch. Otherwise, it's a snack. Is hot chocolate popular there?

  2. Great question! I haven't particularly noticed it in books but most of my heroines love chocolate. *surprise!*

  5. I don't mind drinking hot tea, but I'm not a fan of iced tea. My hubby has hot tea almost every morning for breakfast.

  7. Hi Karen! It's fun to hear from a fellow tea-lover. I enjoy it hot or cold as long as it's "black" (no cream or sugar). Your white chocolate mousse tea sounds wonderful. And those scones look so good I could pluck them off the computer screen (now wouldn't that be wonderful!).

My heroines tend to drink tea too. Hmmm.

  8. Hi Christine! I'm afraid I have to have sugar and sometimes cream, depending on the tea. One of my favorites is Earl Grey tea with fresh mint that the local Middle Eastern restaurant serves. Lots of sugar, though.

  9. Fun post! I know my characters drink a lot of iced tea, which is my favorite of mine. I love team! And there's always chocolate to be found. In my Christmas stories, I definitely take advantage of hot chocolate, cookies, and beer since there's a microwbrew pub that they hang at. In a couple of them, I've put in something holiday specific like a gingerbread house or yule log cake.

  13. the latest book is drinking pink lemonaide (not sure exactly what that is as our lemonade is like your sprite).

  14. Ausjenny, pink lemonade is strawberries with the lemonade. Lemonade in Texas is squeezed lemons, sugar and water. It is sooo good.

I am a tea drinker. I love Ashby's Apricot tea in the morning. Great stuff. I've tried and tried to drink coffee, but I can't get over the aftertaste.

  15. Leann thanks for letting me know I now know never to have pink lemonade. I HATE strawberries. We do make what you call lemonade here but its called cordial. (you can buy it to) where you use the lemons, sugar and water. Our lemonade is fizzy.
