Exercise by Leann Harris
A couple of months ago, my husband and I received gym memberships from our health insurer. We could go to any of the listed gyms for free, join the silver sneakers classes (that hurt). The card came at the right time since I wanted to go back to the gym. My legs have gotten mushy and suddenly my balance went rocky.
Years ago, I hired a trainer and surprised myself by loving it. I felt so much better and my sessions at the gym helped my creativity. I worked out all sorts of plot problems and let my characters talk to me.
I plan to do it all over again. Trainer, exercise, equipment. Besides regaining my strength and toning my limbs (the sagging biceps) I want to boost my creativity. I've had more ah-ha moments on the treadmill than I can tell you.
Do you like to exercise? If so, what you like to do?
This is the cover of my June book where Sawyer and Erin want to reorganize the rodeo in her hometown. They clash, but they also discover how working together will make the job easier.

I plan on joining a gym again. I went faithfully for years. Then, I got married. Then, I had a kid. Then, I had no free time.
ReplyDeleteLeann, I love to walk. My hubby and I walk at least once a day. Its nice to just get out and enjoy the day and take a break from whatever you are doing.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I joined a gym in January, too, but I've been lax in going. Funny that you posted this today when I have plans to go. I like walking. What I do is the treadmill there.
ReplyDeleteI don't like the gym, but husband does. For me, I walk my son to and from school, so I get a walk in twice a day. I love being outside, breathing the fresh air, and thinking through the next scene I'm going to write.
ReplyDeleteLeann, thanks for sharing your plans. I play tennis three or four times a week. I love to play. I'd play more often, but too much might take me back to the days of tennis elbow. I don't want that. I used to walk, but now I do indoor walking/aerobics while I watch TV shows that I've recorded. This time of year in AZ, you have to get up too early to beat the heat. I don't mind doing tennis in the heat, but walking, not so much. I don't like exercising on equipment, but I really should do some weight lifting, too. I have a fitness tracker and try to get 12,000 steps each day. Most days I do meet my goal.
ReplyDeleteI hear you. You don't walk during the day here, and early morning, my body doesn't wake for that. Before I waited until seven in the evening to walk, but now with the air-conditioning, I'll do it between rounds of writing.
ReplyDeleteOh, wow. I want my health insurer to give me a gym membership!!! I love to exercise. The harder the better. Lately I've been doing Barre 3 classes. A new studio opened up near me. I also do pilates and Zumba. This summer I'm traveling a lot but thankfully Barre 3 has an online subscription to stream works on my devices. I find if I don't work out regularly, I'm grumpy, feeling gross, much more sore and my joints stiffen. Even just going for a long walk at night with the hubby helps.
ReplyDeleteI used to refer to exercise as the E-word. Not anymore. On November 1, 2012, I was diagnosed with osteoporosis and told I needed to incorporate weight-bearing exercise into my life. I asked the doctor if Curves would qualify. She said yes, so I got in my truck and drove straight to our Curves gym and signed up. I've been going three days a week ever since and recently celebrated my 500th workout. If anyone would have told me back then that I'd be grateful for the diagnosis, I would have laughed. But in a way, I am because it forced me to do something that's not only good for me but is, to my surprise and delight, also enjoyable.
