Leigh Bale here. Where I live, the temperature got up to 60 degrees today!!! While the Easterners are buried in snow banks, we have warmer weather here on the West Coast. But it's not any easier here.
The normal wildfire fighting season is May-October. But that has been shifting. Because of the hyper droughts in the west, we're getting nasty wildfires. Hundreds of homes have been lost, not to mention the damage to vegetation and animal life. Many people have been killed. And what follows is terrible erosion. Hundreds of people have lost their homes as entire mountainsides come down on top of them along with rocks and boulders. And the ranchers who can't water their livestock end up selling off their stock, hoping their livelihood will survive. Of course, this drives up the price of meat across the entire nation. But because of this phenomena, the wildfire fighting season is shifting to all year long! It has taxed both stamina and our governmental budgets, which have been outpaced by the demand for wildfire fighters to work all year. I'm so grateful to them for answering the call.
How about you? Are you getting snow or drought where you live? No matter which, stay safe out there!

Leigh, Spring is here in Texas. We've had several inches of rain and things are starting to become green and the wildflowers are in full swing.
ReplyDeleteSounds like what we have here in Nevada...the weatherman said on the news last night that we're going to have "substantial" rain this weekend. That is so good for our yards and at least we don't have to shovel rain. :)
DeleteSnow and cold in the northern Great Lakes region. Spring doesn't arrive until May. Sometimes late May. I've seen the snow fly on the first day of summer. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteChristine, I'm sorry you still have snow. Hopefully it doesn't damage your growing season there. And I do understand about snow flying in summer. Our daughter was married on June 17th about 7 years ago, and we held her reception outside in our back yard. But I was prepared to move it all to the inside of the church if the weather changed, which it is prone to do. Stay warm. One month more and you'll be having flowers.
DeleteIt is lovely here in Arizona. My younger daughter and her family recently moved from here to New Jersey. They had snow yesterday.
ReplyDeleteArizona is beautiful in the winter time, but you're probably in great danger of wildfires. You stay safe there!
ReplyDeleteIn a sunny California, we've had a drought for couple years...with wildfires... Praying for a better season this year :) the spring is finally here!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!!!
Natalya, you definitely have wildfires in California. My heart goes out to those poor people who have lost their homes because of the fires. You stay safe and I'll be praying for a wetter spring.

ReplyDeleteWe're cooler here in the middle of the country (Arkansas) than usual, as much as 20 degrees cooler, but we've missed the snow that's hit so much of the east and our rainfall is lower than average, so we're in constant burn ban. It's delayed the planting of crops and gardens (we had a freeze last night) and while the red buds and dogwoods are blooming, it's just not greening up as usual. Praying for NO wildfires anywhere. Stay safe, everyone!
ReplyDeleteNice blog is this
ReplyDeleteLovely cover. Cold and rainy here.
