Wildfire Season is Here! - Leigh Bale

Leigh Bale here.  Where I live, the temperature got up to 60 degrees today!!!  While the Easterners are buried in snow banks, we have warmer weather here on the West Coast.  But it's not any easier here.

The normal wildfire fighting season is May-October.  But that has been shifting.  Because of the hyper droughts in the west, we're getting nasty wildfires.  Hundreds of homes have been lost, not to mention the damage to vegetation and animal life.  Many people have been killed.  And what follows is terrible erosion.  Hundreds of people have lost their homes as entire mountainsides come down on top of them along with rocks and boulders.  And the ranchers who can't water their livestock end up selling off their stock, hoping their livelihood will survive.  Of course, this drives up the price of meat across the entire nation.  But because of this phenomena, the wildfire fighting season is shifting to all year long!  It has taxed both stamina and our governmental budgets, which have been outpaced by the demand for wildfire fighters to work all year.  I'm so grateful to them for answering the call.
