Hello Readers, Katy Lee here. Today I dropped my oldest daughter off at her college dorm. It's been a mixed emotion kind of day for all, but as Mom I did my best to set the atmosphere as positive and upbeat.
Change is always scary, and I could see the fear in my daughter's eyes as I said goodbye and walked away. I had hoped she didn't see the same look in mine. I'm sure it was there.
Fear of the unknown is real, but dreams come true on the other side of fear. Her dreams for herself, and my dreams for her. As a parent, all we can do is encourage them to push through the fear. As a writer, I hope I have shown her how to do it.
My children have watched their mom go after her dreams of being a writer and have seen what putting myself out there looks like. They've seen the fear. They've seen the hard work. And they've seen the dreams come true on the other side.
I know my daughter will push through her fear, and I look forward to the next time I see her when I will see how her courage had turned into dreams come true.
But for tonight, I will smile through a few tears.
Question: Have you had to push through a fear to achieve your dreams?
Thank you for stopping by!

You've raised her, so she'll be okay. Take comfort in that.

DeleteAs my oldest enters tenth grade, I can see the college years looming. I'm so excited for the future, but I also kind of want time to stop for a little while! :) I'll look forward to hearing about your daughter's experiences during this next phase of life. To answer your question, I have had to push through many fears to get to my dreams. For example, for many years I wanted to teach at the college level. About nine years ago, I applied for a job at the community college near my house, but when I landed an interview, I chickened out. I was so afraid of the idea of the teaching demo that I figured there was no way I had any business trying to teach an actual class. So, I cancelled the interview. Fast forward to 2016, when many events in my life led me back to applying again. This time, when offered the interview, I went for it. I was still terrified - but I was more terrified of regretting what might have been had I just dredged up a little extra courage. After my first day of teaching, I knew I was exactly where God wanted me to be. I absolutely love everything about my day job. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a great example of making a change! Good for you. And thank you for your obedience to God. He wants to use use you.
DeleteMy son's in either and sometimes I look at him and lose my breath. Wait, I still want to watch Thomas the Train. Why aren't we still stepping on legos. Yup, change.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard, but essential.
DeleteI just did the same! Sending off those little darlings is bittersweet.
ReplyDeleteIt's not for sissies. :)
