Ask Elnora--About Summer Reading???Lenora Worth

Hello, my lovelies. It is summer in the deep South. Elnora glistens a lot in the summer. Actually I sweat. The humidity loves me. It must, since it clings to me like a cheap slip on a Saturday night! This is why I must have palm trees and hibiscus plants somewhere nearby. And a spot of water, preferrably a nice pool or a rather big ocean. Then, of course, I need something fruity and pleasant to drink. And I need lots and lots of great books to read. So that is the question of the day. What are we reading this summer?

I have a big "to be read" pile. In each room of my house. Right now, I'm "advance" reading a book by my friend Leanna Ellis. It won't be out until August, but RESERVE A SPOT FOR IT IN YOUR PILE NOW! I won't give it away, but trust Elnora when she says "This one is different. And not for the faint of heart. But this book has heart and a lot of it." Sigh. Loved it!! Other books I've read and loved or plan on reading and loving--"Rally Round Green" by my darling friend Judy Christie, the adorable "A Cowboy's Touch" by adorable Denise Hunter, and a book that I'm holding until I can enjoy the whole thing, kind of the way I stare at a piece of cheesecake--"Stars Collide" by Janice Thompson. She has a rather interesting older character in there and if anyone can guess or knows the character, you might just win a book from me!(First one to get it right wins!) Of course, I have lots and lots of the Love Inspired Sisterhood books to read, too. Shall I drop a few names here? Marta Perry, Margaret Daley, Valerie Hanson, Lynette Eason, Winnie Griggs--oh, that's just the surface of the ice cream! I luvva all of my LI sisters' books. Oh dear, I might have to break into my emergency shoe fund to buy more books. How many days are left in summer?

Okay, your turn, my precious people. What are you reading?? Do tell!

  1. Ah Elnora, I know what you mean about summertime. It's hot and humid here in South Mississippi. Already hitting the 100s. ugh!

I love reading all the authors you mentioned. In fact, I love all the Love Inspired books. But I really enjoy reading Amish fiction very much. Right now I'm reading Plain Perfect by Beth Wiseman. Loving it.

  2. Patsy, we are glad to hear you love us. We live you , too. And yes, Amish fiction is very popular. Thanks for sharing with us. Stay cool.

  3. I'm reading Madame Tussaud by Michelle Moran. She hooked me with her Cleopatra's Daughter and Nefertiti books. The French Revolution is not my usual setting, but this one is interesting. The second half especially is taking off.

I'm also reading Finders Keepers by Craig Childs. Just started it because I accidenatlly left Madame Tussand at my nephew's house after his Memorial Day party.

  4. I just finished DiAnn Mills' Attracted to Fire-excellent!

  5. Elnora, I love your idea of a spot of water nearby. The Gulf Coast is my top choice.

In books... I just finished Meg Moseley's When Sparrows Fall and loved it. On the couch is Tina Radcliffe's book The Rancher's Reunion (I'm almost finished, and it's a mazing!). In the car, I have Linda Goodnight's The Wedding Garden (I hope that title is correct! It's her Rita finalist). I'm also reading a YA but the title escapes me. And my daughter is begging me to read The Summer I Turned Pretty which will come soon.

My TBR pile currently has a Ruth Logan Herne title on top as well as Mary Connealy's latest. And I'm going to the book launch party for my good friend and critique partner, Lindi Peterson, tomorrow. I'll be bringing home a copy of her book as well! (Of course, I critiqued that one so know the story pretty well.) :)

  6. Wow, we have a diverse reading group here. I love hearing about all the great books y'all are reading. What would we do without our books? Growing up on a farm (and being the baby of the family) books became my escape. I learned a lot from reading all those summers. My older sister would take me to the libray every weekend and I loved the musty smell of that old, beautiful, cool building. Summer and books just go hand-in-hand, don't they?

  7. Missy,
I read Linda's book. It was great. I also read Tina's. I was reading yours and misplaced it (I do that a lot) and just found it, so after I finish Madame, I'll finish yours.

  9. Duh, it's "Wolfsbane". Typed too fast!

  13. Hi Elnora:

I just love learning what books authors are reading or going to read.

I’d like to know if any Crafty Ladies are going to re-read any books.

I’ve wanted to re-read the “Sisterhood of the Dropped Stitches” quartet for a while and now they are all available for the Kindle!

I wonder how reading a quartet will seem when read all at once and reviewed as a whole as opposed to reading them one at a time a year apart. These books are by Janet Tronstad.

“The Sisterhood of the Dropped Stitches” Book I (Feb 1, 2007)

“A Dropped Stitches Christmas” Book II (Dec 1, 2007)

“A Heart for the Dropped Stitches” Book III (Jul 1, 2008)

“Dropped Stitches Wedding” Book IV (Mar 1, 2009)

I’d also like to read ten debut authors. Reading a new author is like playing a new golf course. You never know what to expect but you can hope!

  14. Vince, I did that reading through a series with the Twilight books. I got the first one as an Advance Reading Copy at a conference. Then I didn't read the others until a few years later once they had all been released. At that point. I started the whole series over again and read them all in a week. :) It was fun to do it that way!

  15. What a great idea, Vince. I have a reader friend who waits until she has all six books of our LI continuities before she reads them. She loves reading them.

    ReplyDelete
  16. She loves reading them all together. Hit the button too fast.

  17. Hmmm, thanks Vince for the perfect idea for my Monday post. Rereading books.

  18. I just read Missy's latest and 3 by Ruth Logan Herne! Now I am reading Mary Connealy's Doctor in Petticoats... then planning to read the other 2 'cause I like to read a series all together. So many great books out there to read!! I'll read Lenora's A Face in the Shadows just as soon as I get #4 in that series!

  19. After reading Vince's comment, I am interested in reading Janet's Sisterhood series! Any ideas on best way to get them at a good price????

  20. I am currently reading A Billion Reasons Why by Kristin Billerbeck and I'm totally hooked by the character chemistry. I'm totally craving the day when I meet someone who sparks this kind of passion in me and knows me better than I know myself (A single girl can dream ;)). Its an overcast winter's day. The day's feel like summer and the nights are definitely winter.

  21. I love Ronie Kenig Discarded Heroes series and can't wait for Wolfsbane. I love reading books and seeing how characters deal with issues and getting a closer relationship with God and its an inexpensive way to go on adventures! I have about 35 paperbacks and 46 ebooks that I hope to read at times that I need that particular story.

  22. Hi Jackie S.

The “Sisterhood” series was never issued as a set and I believe the early books were allowed to go out of print. But now with eBooks, they are back. I bought one of the books yesterday for the Kindle for $1.35. That’s less than the postage you’d pay on a book that cost 1 cent.

If you shop around, Amazon (used books) and abe.com (I believe they have over 20.000,000 used books) you should do very well in the price department.

    Good luck.

  23. Hi Sketch Girl:

Funny, I just saw Ronie Kendig yesterday at our WIN meeting (local chapter of ACFW) in Tulsa. She’s the real deal. I just don’t know if I should read “Dead Reckoning” first. The topic was suspense and Ronie was very informative.

  24. Hi Pamela:

I’ll be sure to read your Monday post. I’d be interested in why fans re-read books.

I re-read books mostly to see how I have changed over the years. Books are just ink on paper, just like sheet music, and they need to be played in a reader’s mind to truly exist. In a sense no one reads the same book and even the same person does not read the same book twice.

Of course, I could be like Mark Twain. At 17 he was embarrassed by how little his parents knew but when he truned 21, he was amazed at how much they had learned in just four years!

  25. THANKS, Vince.......now I have to get that Kindle!!!

  26. Jackie, I think Vince has the right idea. If "The Sisterhood" books are out of print, you can surely find them in e-book form. Janet Tronstad will be thrilled that you're looking for them.

Wow, what a great discussion. Elnora is so proud of all of our avid readers. When writers aren't writing, we love just talking about books! Good discussion. And ... so many books to read!

  27. Hi Vince

You just have to love life incidences. Reading Dead Reckoning is what actually got me hooked into Roni Kendig's books. I love suspense Columbo TV series sort got me into murder mysteries but its also the main characters interaction that makes reading suspense so interesting but also Chic-Lit. If the interaction isn't lively especially with so much crazy with my job and home life environment matches my job then I'm not reading that book at this time. Its also the recovery of broken souls healing that has hooked me as well
