Ask Elnora--About the ACFW conference??Lenora Worth

Hello, beautiful people. I am at the American Christian Fiction Writers Conference in St. Louis. Big Daddy drove me and sweet Betsy St. Amant up here. Wasn't that nice of him? I'll tell you about our escapades as the day goes on. I hope to post happenings here all day long. Not that Elnora would gossip, but just think of me as Entertainment Tonight or Access Hollywood, except today is Access ACFW! Did you know our own Margaret Daley is Madame President of ACFW??? Yes. Elnora is so proud of her. And I'm even more proud of her upcoming book from Summerside "From This Day Forward." I'm reading it right now. I also have my friend Cheryl Hodde's upcoming book on my nightstand. "The Wedding Kiss" looks like a winner to me! The cover is exquisite and I know the writing will be the same. Watch for these books. They should be on the shelves soon. Of course, Elnora loves seeing what kind of shoes everyone is wearing. I only packed five pairs! And two purses. Okay, Betsy and I both have extra shoe bags. What can I say? I get bored wearing the same pair of shoes! I'll try to post some shots to facebook. But the next best thing to shoes at this conference is ... books!!! Lots and lots of books in the bookstore. I brought an extra bag just for books, but Big Daddy thinks it's my "business bag." I shall fill it with books and more books. Where I will put them, I have no idea! So ... I only have my iphone here so things might get sketchy. But I will try to post as often as I can. Friday is my busy day. Breakfast with our editors Melissa Endlich and Elizabeth Mazer. Then a panel discussion about "seat-of-the-pants" writing with Karen Ball and several other writers. We're winging that one! Then a lovely dinner with all the LI writers! Lots of hugs and chatter at that, no doubt. Saturday I get to visit with my wonderful editor Pam Hopkins. This is her first time at ACFW. I'm so glad she's here. While I'm busy here, if there are any questions you want to ask, let us know. If I don't know the answer, I will hunt someone down and find out! What would you like to know about LI writers, Christian fiction and what goes on at this wonderful conference? As a reader or as a writer?? Or both??? Now's the time to ask. We'll all be checking in and we'll be glad to answer your questions. Okay, my feet hurt already!

  2. This is the opportunity I have been waiting for! I am a reader and desire to be a writer. Actually, i am working on a book for Love Inspired. The only problem I have is that the guideline says' the hero and the heroine must come from North America'. I have never been out my country (Nigeria) before and I wonder if they can't be Nigerians. Pls Elnora, help me to find out.

I also desire to have a mentor who can personally guide me among the LI authors. Any volunteer?

  3. I'm glad everyone is having a great time. How many stories are you required to write a year? Do agree to some kind of contract or do write at your leisure?

  4. Elnora,
Please take some pictures :) I'm so sad I'm not there. I hope you're having the grandest time.

  5. Hello. We are trying to find out allof these important things. Elizabeth Mazer said she will consider any setting. But she can't guarantee that a Nigerian setting would work. As for how many books we write per year--2 to 4 average is about right.

Some buzz--content sells content and word of mouth sells books. More later. Soup is here.

  6. Hi Lenora! Sounds like you're having a great time! Enjoy! And say hi to everyone!

  7. Have a grand time!

Olufisayo, you can always submit and see what they say! The best thing to do, the editors always tell aspiring writers, is to read the books so you'll know the type stories they want.

    Good luck!

  8. Sounds like you're having a fun (and busy) time, Elnora. Good thing you brought Big Daddy so he can tote your 'business bag' once it gets full! =)

I finished The Wedding Kiss a couple of days ago...loved it! I have Margaret's book on my shelf to read...hope to get to it soon.

You mentioned your editor Pam is attending her first ACFW conference...How many conferences have you attended, Elnora?

  9. I agree with Missy. Send your proposal to Elizabeth Mazer and tell her you posted to me here during the ACFW conference. We talked some more about it at lunch. She seemed interested. You can email me through my website www.lenoraworth.com for more questions.

Our seat of the pants panel went great. Lots of good discussion for those of us who fly into the mist. Now it's on to dinner. I'm stuffed from lunch. Today was a busy day. Breakfast was fun but weather was foggy and chilly. Mote news later.

  10. I attend two big conferences per year and a couple of local and regional ones. Big daddy went to a Cardinals game. They lost but play again tonight. He will be carrying lots of book bags home. I did buy one pair of shoes in Memphis. toms.

  14. Yay! I slipped over here because I was hoping someone was posting on the ACFW conference and I wasn't disappointed. I am so far behind on my current deadline that there is no way I could be there even if I had planned to be, so an glad to know everyone is having fun. For a minute there on your last post I thought you were developing a new secret language (you know like kids do in their clubs). So glad to see we have a Nigerian sister who is working on a Love Inspired. All the best to OLUFISAYO ALABI>

  16. Janet,
Good to see you. Someone mentioned your name (Jenny) on our Carol post the other day.

  17. I heard that some of the Heartsongs will get published after all but haven't confirmed that. I think that is great. I've so enjoyed the workshop with Allen Arnold, Julie Gwinn and James Rubart. The Hero's Path. It's about things that can mess with writers' head--those super villains such as interruptions and doubts and worrying about e-books taking over the world. Amen to that.

  18. LI report-- they still love small towns, cowboys, ranches and suspense. Next year will celebrate 15th anniversary with emblems on books. Elnora had been there from the beginning!! Always interested in historicals that might tie into a major event such as Titanic. (100 years since it went down-- that is coming soon )

  19. Didn't think of this till now but do you think you could ask Why Australians and others can not get the kindle verson of LI books for about 2 years?

    ReplyDelete
  20. AusJenny,I will ask about the delayed Kindle books. I'll let you know what I find out!

My e-mail filter keeps sending our posts into my spam. Even my own posts!!!! Arggh!!!
