Darlings, I am at the beach at beautiful Orange Beach, Alabama with a group of ladies I call the Surf Sisters. You have heard me mention them before. They are my dear friends and I'm happy to be back with them for the weekend. That got me to thinking about what true friendship means. I can tell you what it means to me:
It means laughing until you cry. It means crying when you pour out your heart then crying until you can finally laugh again. It means fighting like sisters but defending each other like warriors. It means shopping until you drop, then modeling what you bought and comparing notes to see who got the best bargain. ( I once got a suede coat that was priced at $250.00 for $1.08. Yes, one dollar and eight cents!!) It means life, death and birth. It means carrot cake and coffee and trail mix and happy trails. It means knowing someone is in your corner even when you've painted yourself into that corner. It means no matter how far away you are, when you get back together you are home.
What does true friendship mean to you? Let's discuss!!

Yes indeed! Friendship does mean home. A friend is someone who understands when you're overwhelmed and "just need to tell someone." Friendships are so precious!
ReplyDeleteI must admit a touch of envy that you're at the beach. What a gorgeous photo! It's below freezing here this morning. Definitely not a beach day.
Lenora, you must hold the bargain queen title!!! :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful weekend! That's our favorite vacation spot. And what fun to be there with good girlfriends!!
Have a fantastic time.
Hi Elnora:
ReplyDeleteSo glad I didn’t miss today’s post. We go to Orange Beach every year now – ever since Missy Tippens posted that video of the view from her condo balcony.
There is this group of six women who have been going there for about twenty-five years. All went to college together. They have the most fun. They spend most of the time shopping! They actually are an inspiration. Six good life long friends! What a treasure.
Your words on friendship really made me think. I’ve often thought of how rare it is to have a genuine, life long friend. Quotes like the one below always ring true with me:
“If you have two friends in your lifetime, you're lucky. If you have one good friend, you're more than lucky.”
― S.E. Hinton
A friend is part of one’s self as no others could ever be. A friend is an oasis where it’s always safe to be vulnerable. A friend gladly offers a ‘come as you are’ welcome every time. A friend quietly listens to you say the same things over and over because a friend knows you’re not conveying information. A friend knows when you are thinking out loud and when you expect an answer. A friend knows when you are seeking the truth and not a hug and when a hug is all the truth you need. A friend sees you as a friend and not as what you look like. A friend often knows the news before being told and sometimes knows even before we know it ourselves. A friend knows when we don’t mean what we are saying and what we are saying actually means. A friend can feel our pain even when we are too numb to feel it ourselves. A friend is one of God’s proofs that He exists.
Vince that is so true. You are very wise! Walking on the beach with a friend makes things better. And that extra set of footprints makes a lot of difference.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you're enjoying yourself, Lenora! It sounds wonderful!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful time, Lenora! ~ My friends are one of my greatest treasures and blessings. I am happy to say that I'm still in very close contact with my 4 best friends from high school, and our friendship is priceless. We've been in each other's weddings, celebrated births, and comforted each other when one of us had a death in the family. Just knowing that these "girls" are always there for me means so very much (and they know I'm there for them too). ~ Blessings, Patti Jo
ReplyDeletePatti Joe, that is so true. Thanks for stopping by.
