Ask Elnora--about WATER??? Lenora Worth

Hello, beautiful people. I’m in Florida for a few days and the weather is wonderful. Not too hot or humid and sunny. I have a view of a bay right out my door, which makes getting any work done very hard for Elnora. Big Daddy is working away, however. He’s pulled up carpet and patched spots on walls, fixed some doors here and there and will soon be buying paint and picking out carpet. I’ll help with those last two tasks. In the meantime, I got to wondering as I stared out into the blue water—what is about water that soothes the soul? Is it the gentle lapping of the water against the shore? Is it the vastness of all that blue and green? Or is it the peacefulness of an ocean breeze and a palm tree rustling in the wind? Elnora loves to look at the big water, but getting lost out there in it isn’t so hot. So … what do you think about water? Now I’m humming that Brad Paisley song “Water”. Why do we all have this love affair with water? Let’s discuss!

  1. You're so right about the water, but I don't know why. I grew up on the lakeshore, so it's a deeply rooted comfort to hear the roll of the waves.

    Congrats on the move! It sounds like you're plenty busy...getting inspired to write stories set on the seashore. {grin}

  2. I think being by a bay just naturally makes you want to slow down and enjoy.

Slow down now that sounds like fun.

  3. I love it, too. It feels so peaceful. And for me, it is that lapping of the water (or crashing of waves at the beach). I've even bought a soundtrack of water and the ocean! :)

  4. Enjoyed this post, and I have to agree with Missy (hey, Georgia friend!) that the lapping of water on the shore is peaceful (hmmm...I'm getting drowsy just thinking about it!). ~ Will you have a view of the water when you look out your office in your FL home? ~ LOVED meeting you at ACFW in St. Louis (seems that I met more people in the Ladies room, LOL!). Hugs, Patti Jo :)

  5. Hello Patti Jo and all my friends. I'm looking at the water right now!! Windy here today. We will officially move next year but for now I have two Adirondack chairs as my living room and an air mattress as my bed. Elnora's back is not happy!!! But it's a beautiful day. Today is paint and carpet day. Must finish my coffee so we can go to Big Daddy's second home--Lowe's!!!! More details as they develop!!!

  6. For me, it's the sound of the water lapping (or crashing) on the shore. My brain is the kind that is constantly "on." I have a hard time slowing down and just "being." Water helps my brain just "be" and helps me slow down. Did that make sense?

  7. I think it's just nature in general, there is just something soothing about it :)

  8. Maybe because we are Baptized by water. That gentle lapping makes Elnora want to do some napping!!

  9. I guess water makes you feel cooler on a hot day unless you get sunburned.
I love the sunsets over the sea when i was in Hawaii but in australia rarely get to the beach.
I find the same with mountains. They are refreshing and calming

  11. The rhythm of the waves is a massage to the soul, kneading away the stresses of life. I'd love to visit the ocean someday just to see for myself. =)

A bay view sounds wonderful, Elnora. Did you and Big Daddy find some paint? Would love to know what color(s) you chose.

  12. I so agree with you about water, Elnora! I just finished living in Arizona for 6 years and I missed water so much !!!! I grew up in Calif. and lived in other states that always had water but found out I wasn't a desert person at all! So now I live in Oregon and couldn't be happier! Everywhere I go there is water and I feel like I'm in heaven every day...... So soothing and peaceful!

  13. Jenny, we picked a lovely neutral that has a romantic name. That's for all the bedrooms--filioli antique lace. It's a pretty tannish color. With glossy white trim!! Valri, California is beautiful!!

  14. Thanks Linda. That is part of the view from our den. The two trees are twisted together. Very symbolic for a romance writer!!

  15. That filoli antique lace will look gorgeous with a glossy white trim (just checked the color online). Just as soothing as the view, too!

    Blessings...and have a great weekend. =)
