Ask Elnora--About Christmas? Lenora Worth
Hello, my little Elf Bloggers! Tomorrow will be the first day of December, which means the countdown to Christmas is getting serious. We all know what happened long ago when Baby Jesus was born in the manger, and we have seen the "new" spirit of the holiday---people punching each other trying to get the best price on something they really want for Christmas. Kind of sad, that. But the commercial part of Christmas will only get worse as the month passes. Elnora, material girl that I am aside, thought it might be nice to take a little break from trying to find the perfect gift. Why don't we share stories about our favorite Christmas ornaments or decorations. One of my favorites was the white wooden manger scene that Big Daddy made and always put in our front yard. We gave it to a friend since we won't have a place to put it when we move to Florida (one day soon.) But it's in good hands, so I can rest knowing others will be able to enjoy the stark beauty of the wooden images of Mary and Joseph and baby Jesus and a bright star shining down on them. That's the kind of image I like to think about when things get tough in my life. We all need that bright star to settle us and center us. So, what's your favorite Christmas decoration? Let's share!

Last year my husband got me a count down elf. I can hardly wait to set it up tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteOh, and my son, this year, has an advent calendar that is Star Wars legos. Every day, during countdown, he opens a door and makes a little lego. When he's out of doors, it's Xmas.
ReplyDeleteChristmas tree and songs!
Hi beautiful people, compliments.
The manger scene. Each year we place the Baby Jesus in the stable on Christmas Eve after church, which begins our celebration.
ReplyDeletePam, I love the elf countdown and the Star Wars Advent Calender. Olufisayo, great to see you here!
ReplyDeleteDebby, that is a special celebration!
I have a collection of nativity scenes, but my favorite is the beautiful porcelain set my husband bought for me one year. It's one of the few I brought with me from Florida this year.
ReplyDeleteI love the ornaments my kids made when they were little. I have a box full. They are the last to go on because I don't want them hidden behind any of the others. My daughter made a baby in a manger that hangs from a pipe cleaner. She painted a smile on the baby. I want my kids to go back to being little. LOL

ReplyDeleteits so hard to pick a favourite, I have done the tree different than normal left of alot of the older ornaments, some were fabric covered balls I made that look shabby. But I do put the 2 glass balls we have had all my life (there were 3 but one was broken a few years back) the first christmas after my brother was adopted mum and dad got these ones, 1960. more recently I got an Operation Santa bear to support the US troops which is so sweet.
ReplyDeleteI love nativity scenes. My favorite ornaments are the ones we collected for our children through the years. Jenny, it sounds like you have a very special collection!
