God Bless America

It’s a prayer, an American patriotic song written by Irving Berlin in 1918 and revised by him in 1938 and what Dad used to sing when he was fixing things to refrain from using words he didn’t want young children to hear. Unfortunately, many Americans don’t feel blessed these days, even those of us who are.

Jamie Glasser, the heroine of my July Love Inspired Romance is one of those who doesn’t feel blessed—not any more. She’s lost her husband to the war in Afghanistan, lost her faith to her grief and had to go back to work full time, leaving her less time with her three children. To top it off her teenage son keeps getting in trouble. And her son’s high school guidance counselor, retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Eli Payton, isn’t helping on any of those fronts, even though he thinks he is.

We’ve all experienced some of Jamie’s feelings of not being blessed. But despite our country’s flaws, the United States still offers us may freedoms and opportunities that many other people around the world can only dream of. We are blessed to be Americans.

As Independence Day approaches, what blessings are you counting?

  1. You don't have to travel far to realize how much we take for granted here!

  3. Even with all its faults, we live in a great country. God Bless all those who fight and die so that we keep our freedom.

  4. What do I feel blessed about? The list is long - and probably not very original. We live in a country of so many blessings that it's easy to take them for granted. That, in itself, is an incredible blessing. Thanks for prompting me to take time to think about this, Jean.

  5. love the sound of your new book. I may not be an american but I feel Australia is also a lucky country. We do have issues but we too have it good compared to others.
I may not have enough work but I have enough money to survive.

HOpe you all have a great July 4 and Happy Canada to all Canadians.
