August is HERE!

These are the dog days of summer! Here in the Pacific Northwest August is one of our hottest months. Though to be honest we had some hot days in June and July. So unusual for us.  Often we head to the Oregon coast where the temps are cooler. What do you do to stay cool?

I have a new release this month! I have to confess this was a hard book to write. I had a second surgery on my wrist (I broke it the year before) and was struggling to get my work done.  Through the break in my wrist, two surgeries and hours of PT, I learned to dictate with Dragon Anywhere on my iPhone. Talk about a learning curve. But God had my back. He put people in my life who helped me and encouraged me through the difficulties. 
I love how God orchestrates life. I'll admit I was nearing burn out when I broke my wrist and the fracture forced me to have some down time. It also forced me to learn a new way of writing. I would never have tried dictation if I hadn't been desperate to finish my contracted books. Now I love it. For my first draft. I dictate a chapter in an hour, just barf it out with words on the page. Which also made me realize how much I enjoy revising.

Keeping Active by Terri Reed

As a writer I spend a great deal of time sitting at my computer.  Studies have been conducted on prolonged sitting and the findings are no joke. Here's an article from the Mayo Clinic

To combat all the sitting--at the computer, driving, planes, watching television, reading...the list could go on--I've taken up doing agility with my beautiful Australian Shepherd. 

This is Aubrey. She'll be 3 years old soon. She's a bit of a wild child. 

When my husband and I became semi empty nesters, I needed someone to take care of so I got a puppy. I think I lost my mind a bit. LOL. I'd forgotten how much work raising a puppy can be, especially this breed. But she has been worth every frustration and every tear I shed. 

She is my constant companion and keeps us active. We have a new circle of friends because of this dog. And I have a reason to leave my house at least three times a week to run and play with my girl. I decided to try agility because it is physically and mentally challenging for both the dog and me. 

Keeping active is important. What do you do to stay active?

Adventure Awaits by Terri Reed

Good morning and happy Monday.  Can you believe it’s already February? Did you watch the super bowl yesterday? I can only take football in small doses. We’d turn it on to check the score and to watch the half-time show. But we did watch The Game Plan with Dwayne Johnson. Love that movie. So cute.  

I wanted to share a few more pictures with you of our trip to Ireland this past summer. An adventure I won't forget.

We drove to the very southern end of the island. The day was pretty. Sunshine and water spraying off the craggy rocks. It was relaxing and inspiring.

 

Then we drove into fog. We stopped as we came to this tunnel so I could take a picture. With trepidation we ventured through, praying we didn’t meet a car coming the other direction. Yes, this was a two-way road.

Sometimes trusting God is like this tunnel. We see the darkness head and maybe we can see the light at the end and sometimes not, but we must go through to find out what’s on the other side.

Are you in place of trusting through the dark? Can you see the light ahead? Will you trust God to bring you safely to the other side? Do you find the adventure of trusting hard?

Finding Balance in the New Year

Good morning, Terri Reed here. I'm a bit late today, my apologies. 

Happy New Year everyone. I pray it has started out well for you.

So far 2019 has been busy for me.  I'm hoping it will slow down so I can find balance in all the things that come my way the rest of the year. Ha!

Balance is my word for 2019.  

I also pick a Bible verse to keep me grounded.  

I can do all things through him who strengthens me. Phil 4:13

Galway and a giveaway

Terri Reed here sharing some more of my summer adventures. For our thirtieth wedding anniversary we traveled to Scotland and Ireland. I shared a few weeks ago about Scotland and now I'll take you on the first part of our tour of the Emerald Isle.
We landed in Shannon and rented a car, which was an adventure in itself. My husband did all the driving. I have to say being on the left side of the road was stressful.

Our first stop was in the town of Galway,  which sits on a peninsula and has a harbor, on  Ireland’s west coast, where the River Corrib meets the Atlantic Ocean.

Such an interesting place. I love this and wonder why this boat was left here.

The arch is the remainder of a 16th century bastion, added to the town's walls to protect merchant ships from looting. At this time, it was known as Ceann an Bhalla (Head of the Wall)

K-9 Fun

Terri Reed here. So many of the Ladies of Love Inspired write books with dogs, especially with K-9 officers and their human handlers.

A Summer Love- Chapter Two by Terri Reed

“Mom, it’s not going to work.” Jenny dragged her mother along the boardwalk to the café. No amount of matchmaking was going to bring Jenny and Jake back together.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about?”

The innocence in her voice was so saccharine sweet Jenny’s teeth ached.  She snorted, even as her heart rate still beat too fast.  

“A table for two,” she managed to say to the hostess who led them to a table on the deck by the railing where they had a perfect view of the ocean and the beach.

Jake was back in town.

She’d known one day he’d arrived. She had expected it a few months ago when his mother passed but then he never showed so she’d let her guard down. Seeing him today had stirred up all her old feelings and the memories she’d thought long buried.

Fifteen years.

A long time to get over him. 

She was over him. She’d moved on.  That she was still single had nothing whatsoever to do with Jake!

But boy, oh boy, he was still as good-looking as he’d been when she’d fallen in love with him.  Back then he’d been thinner and exuded a kinetic vitality that had always amazed her even as it drew her in, making her want to be within the sphere of his energy force.

Time had been good to him. He’d filled out, his shoulders boarder, his arms muscled. Now his dark hair had just a tinge of silver thread through the dark strands and there were new lines in his face that only made him more attractive.

And there’d been sadness in his chocolate colored eyes that had tugged at her.

That is, until he teased her.  

Placing her chin in her hand, she stared at her mother. “What were you thinking to invite Jake to dinner?”

Shaking out the napkin and laying it properly across her lap, Mom said, “Extending an invitation to an old friend who’s recently returned to town after a long absence.”

“Right. That’s all.” Jenny turned her gaze to the beach and her breath caught as her gaze snagged on Jake and his dog walking along the sandy shore. Was he limping? What had happened to him over the years?  Would he really sell the house?

The place they’d dreamed of sharing and filling with children.

A flutter started in her tummy and worked its way through her until her hands shook.  An idea formed. She loved the cottage by the sea.

Adjust your expectation and form a new plan, her dad had always told her.

Good advice.

If Jake wanted to sell, there was no reason why she couldn’t buy the house.
