Favorite Christmas Movies! What's Yours?

My favorite holiday movie right now is A Grandpa for Christmas.  It's a Hallmark movie that show a grandpa winding up caring for the granddaughter he didn't know he had.  His faith in Christmas and his relationship with his estranged daughter are restored.  It's a heart touching movie that my seven-year-old son watched with me.  He didn't even complain that Darth Vadar didn't make an appearance.

My favorite Christmas movies (I can't pick one!) are Elf (with Will Ferrell) and The Grinch (the newer version with Jim Carrey). One of the reasons I love them is that I've watched them with my kids over and over. So they've become a tradition in our household! But I also love them because of the humor and the lump-in-the-throat moments.

My favorite Christmas story, and there are SO many to choose from, is Silent Night with Linda Hamilton.  It's about a German mother (Linda Hamilton) who doesn't want her youngest boy, who is only 14, to die in WWII like her husband and older son did.  So she travels on Christmas Eve to a house that is close to the fighting where the Americans are in the hopes they'll both be captured. There both some American and German soldiers take refuge from a snow storm and agree not to be enemies for one night.  I just love this story.

Apparently I'm a traditionalist, because I love It's a Wonderful Life and still tear up at the end. No Christmas season is complete without it. This movie reminds me of the numerous second chances God gives us and how we bless those around us with the "small" things we do to show our love and compassion.
 Christine Johnson

One of my favorite Christmas movies is Miracle on 34th Street, the newer version starring Elizabeth Perkins and Dylan McDermott. For me, it's a sweet, poignant movie. I loved how Dylan's character brought joy to both the little girl and her mom.

My favorite Christmas movie is The Christmas Story. Some of it reminded me of my childhood. I laughed all the way through the movie. Love the scenes with Santa Claus at the department store, the dinner at the Chinese restaurant, the lamp the father won, the bunny suit Ralph got as a gift. Hilarious movie.

My favorite Christmas movie is Miracle on 34th St, the old version. Love the spunky little girl who learns to believe and the mom who is the same way. Great movie.
Lacy Williams

I recently enjoyed a new movie, Christmas Angel on GMC. Della Reese plays an aging, disabled singing star, hiding out from the public, estranged from those she loves. It's about family and faith and the miracles of Christmas. Some of the acting was B rated but the story was uplifting.

It’s a Wonderful Life.  I'm a big fan of Jimmy Stewart.  But mostly I like this movie because of the message, that no matter how insignificant we think we are, we touch others lives and that touching has a ripple effect.
Terri Reed

My favorite holiday movie is Christmas Vacation. I love it because it reminds me of my quirky relatives and it reminds me to worry less and enjoy more at this special time of the year. It makes me laugh and makes me cry. We used to watch it as a family on Christmas Eve. Now that my two children are grown we don't watch it as much but we have the DVD so we can pull it out any time and have a good laugh.

  1. Lisa I watched Silent Night (think thats what you called it) a few years ago when I was in Melbourne they had it on Christmas eve late and I sat up and loved the story so touching how it worked out.

One of my favourites is Christmas Shoes. I wont be watching it this year as it can be a tear jerker and I dont need to tear jerkers this year. We dont have a channel that plays the christmas movies but I wish we did. I do love watching them this time of year.

  5. Muppet Christmas Carol with Michael Caine playing Scrooge! I watch that a few times a year, not just at Christmas.
    And...
The Christmas Card with Ann Evans - her accent isn't very good (trying to do an American accent, but she's British), but the story is great.
