Elnora is both joyous and depressed. This Sunday I will turn 55! Yes, offically middle-aged and getting older by the minute. I don't mind the number so much as the aches and pains and wrinkles. Old age isn't for sissies, after all. But I plan to embrace this milestone. I'm thowing myself a party! A big backyard picnic to also celebrate the release of my 45th book "Hometown Sweetheart." And yes, all cyber gifts are welcome. Elnora loves presents. Especially your presence here on our blog.

How do you handle old age?

Here are some old age adages:

How old would you be if you didn't know how old you was? Satchel Paige

Adults are obsolete children. Dr. Seuss

Just remember when you're over the hill, you pick up speed. Charles Schulz

You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough. Mae West

I never worry about diets. The only carrots that interest me are the number you get in a diamond. Mae West

Men become much more attractive when they start looking older. But it doesn't do much for women, though we do have an advantage: make-up. Bette Davis

I married an archaeologist because the older I grow, the more he appreciates me.
Agatha Christie

  2. Answering the first adage ;) I'm 15. Really! I have teenager tastes, I have teenager emotions, I would even eat like a teenager if my older-me-mother let :)

    Happy Birthday, Elnora!

  3. Elnora I have 11 years on you as of Tuesday but I refuse to feel old. And I hope you have a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

Love those adages especially the one by Satchel Paige.

  4. Happy Birthday!
    I'd have never guessed.
I don't know how old I'd be if I didn't know how old I was. Probably 67 on some days and 27 on others.

  6. I enjoyed your comments, Lenora! I'm right behind you at 52! I remember when my mom was this old and I thought it was so old but now that I am this age, it doesn't seem that old! Perspective! Happy Birthday!

  9. Happy 55th Birthday!
I turned 50 this year and did not feel any different. I think I have alot of regrets though. Like not losing weight and not having the marriage I have now when I was younger. Wisdom comes with age though so maybe by the time I'm 55 I will have lost this weight :-)

  10. Happy Birthday Elnora:

I didn’t know 55 was middle age. Does that mean we get to live to 110?

    Personal Observations on Aging:

“You know you’re aging when every person you meet looks like someone else you’ve known.”

“You know you’re aging when you look at life as how many years you have left and not how old you are.”

“It may seem like the older you get the faster time speeds by but really you’re just forgetting so much of the stuff that happens in-between, it just seems like time is speeding up.”

  11. Judy, I believe we can always strive to make things better. It's never too late. Elnora knows all about regrets. But the biggest regret would be to give up. Each birthday reminds us of the great gift of life. Go for it! And thanks everyone for helping me celebrate.

  19. Thanks Cara. We've cleaned house, bought food and planted flowers. Weather is in the seventies after storms yesterday. (Prayers for those who went through really bad weather). I'm blessed to share my birthday with such great friends as everyone here!
